Should the makers of the movie "2012" be sued?

Should they be sued about spreading fear, lies and misinformation among the general population?

The same goes with all the crackpots who cash in with this 2012 crap, like the Emmerich brothers and Sony does.

I'm pretty sure they have caused a couple of suicides already.

Update:

Krys: 2012 is not based on a "book", but on a hoax spread by people who only want to make money on people's fears. Sony and Emmerich brothers just saw a good way to make some money for themselves as well. Really ethical behaviour on their part.

Update 2:

Well, at least I will boycott the movie. Sony and the Emmerich brothers crossed the line with this one. They won't get my money or my time.

Update 3:

Asian Invasion: The point is that the Mayans DID NOT predict that the world will somehow end in 2012. The Mayans themselves deny this (yes, there are Mayans living even today)!

No, anyone has the right to make a film or book with a realistic feel to it, Orson Wells started a mass exodus thanks to his realistic portrayal of the book War of the Worlds l'd like to think that we have a little more sophistication through knowledge since then.

l grew up listening to documentries about the global catastrophey due to come from the bomb if wwlll happened. Films were made, women picketted outside nuclear stations, even an animated film When the Wind Blows was made for children to watch and see the ravages of radiation sickness.

So no l don't believe its scare mongering why live with our heads in the sand with what could be and if it never happens it could make a great flick or a greater warning....

Anyone who takes this movie seriously is really stupid.

And I hardly believe that anyone has committed suicide over this movie, so don't be so dramatic.

And the whole "2012" thing is somewhat true.

Its based on the Mayan calender which ends on December 21, 2012. (12/21/12) and supposedly, the Mayans predicted that the world would end on that day.

The makers of the movie "2012" are just cashing in on this idea to make people interested in their movie. To make people think, "What if..?"

That's all it is, nothing more.

Absolutely not. Why should they be sued for making a movie based off of a really great book? It was made to make you think, not to scare you. God I hope this doesn't turn out to be like the Harry Potter book/movie banning.

Edit: There is a book called 2012, that's what the fakkin' movie is based off of! Duh.

I guess if they didn't spread panic about an alien invasion when they made Independence Day, they could hardly be accused of doing it with 2012.

Maybe Spielberg should be sued for spreading panic about sharks!
