A Judgmental doctor, i caused infection myself?
Hi,
Im going to the doctors this morning and was just curious about something. I have 2 infected cuts on my fingers. Sometimes i pick the skins due to habit - watching tv, reading etc - like when people bite their nails. You don't think he will have a less interested apporoach because basically i brought it on myself do you??
Thanks :)

after years of dealing with doctors honestly if i were you i wouldn't tell the doctor that you picked at it. doctors can be jerk about things. two thing hes probably going to tell you is to give you an oral antibiotic and to tell you to get some neosporin to put on your finger. in case you don't know what it is its an antiobiotic gel you can put on your finger. it can be pricey to buy it and there is another antibiotic ointment that is the same but costs quite a bit less. about 1-3 dollars a tube. its called triple antibiotic ointment, its basically a generic neosporin. you can get it at any grocery or drug store. thats the medicine my wound care doctor prescribed me for my wounds that i had. it works wonders. occassionaly i may break out onmy face and it heals over night. i hope that helps and good luck with everything.

He shouldn't have that attitude because HE is working for you and YOU are paying him. Remind him of that if he does say anything nasty to you, but I think most doctors would have a little more sense than to jump on your case about that.
It's very hard to break habits like this, but maybe just try to do something else with your hands like hold light weights in each hand and work your wrist or arms while you are watching t.v. Wear gloves or socks on your hands if you know that watching t.v. or reading makes you do this behavior. Have someone teach you how to knit so your can keep your hands busy while watching t.v. Manicure your nails while you watch t.v. so you focus on your hands. Doesn't matter if you change your nail polish every single night just do it until you quit the old habit.
I'm not expecting you to ever have this problem again but if you ever have a scrape or cut make sure you soak it in warm salt water as salt is a natural antibiotic and will cleanse the scrape/cut and it will heal up. The more you treat it during the day/night the better the results. The salt will protect it and keep infection away and even now you should soak it before seeing a doctor so you will have a speedy healing.
Good luck and speedy healing!

If you are picking at it and won't let it heal-you caused the infection by not leaving it alone. Re-opening the wound leaves it out there for infection to grab on to. Doc was not wrong.
