Heartworm medication is prescription, so you will need a veterinarian to authorize any pharmacy (either at a vet or online) to fill it. While some online pharmacies are less expensive, not all vets will work with online pharmacies. You might be able to get the medication from another vet office but they will probably require proof that your dog has had a heartworm test and, depending on their policy, they may not sell it to you unless you become a client.

You should NOT give your dog heartworm medication until you have had a vet test whether he is heartworm positive or negative. This test is done right in the office from a drop of blood, takes just a few minutes and is cheap.

If you know for sure that your dog is heartworm negative, you can get some brands of generic heartworm preventative from foreign sites online - but you MUST have your dog tested. If he is positive, and high positive at that, heartworm preventative can easily kill him. Not worth the chance.

By the way, heartworm preventative comes in generic forms, even at your vets and is NOT expensive. Unless you plan to buy in bulk, why even bother trying to find a non-prescription source - the test must be done first in any case.

This is not the place to try to save money, as I said, generic heartworm preventative is cheap.

You also need to put a good flea/tick preventative on your dog every single month - another place not to try to save money. Fleas cause some horrible diseases and living with them is torture, for you and your dog. Use Frontline Plus or Advantix - saves a lot of agony and cost in the long run.

There is no nonprescription heartworm medication. Heartworm meds are a prescription only medication.

You can buy heartworm medication through a Canadian pharmacy.

Please just make sure your dogs are indeed heartworm free and I would also recommend purchasing the same brand and size that you normally get the prescription for.

all heartworm medication requires a prescription because if your dog is positive and you give the preventative to him, you can kill him.

There are plenty of sites to get heartworm products. but they all have to be prescribed.
