Do people who are against big government and flout the constitution as their reasoning realize...?

that the framers of the constitution had no way to possibly imagine the challenges of governing in the 20th and 21st century? So they laid a groundwork and gave rough guidelines. They never could have imagined the scope of our global economy. They never could have imagined the necessity of the departments of labor, of education, ATF, environment, state... and on and on. Do you think the framers could have ever imagined even just our interstate highway system?

Having a nationalized health care system is only a matter of time. The fed needs to streamline the health care system in order to cut the redundant state AND federal bureaucracy which make it inaccessible and overly expensive.

For most of them, their claim is just that something is unconstitutional as a magic word. They have no idea what the Constitution actually says about it, or that silence on its part does not mean it should not be considered. They think that if the Constitution doesn't mention it, it forbids it. They fail in quoting the 10th amendment, since that allows the power to be delegated to the people. Since the people are represented by their Congresspersons, that still makes it possible to pass something not specifically addressed in the Constitution.

Today, "unconstitutional" really equates to "I don't like it." The fact that the framers set up a document that could be amended indicates that they knew that in the future, things might change and new interpretations and duties might need to be added. Some people feel that the Constitution is something static, never mind that it has already been changed or added to 27 times! Many things that could have been handled by an amendment were instead handled by the courts. Virginia v Loving overturned bans on interracial marriage without forcing a Constitutional amendment.

But we don't need a dept of education, or an ATF, the government shouldn't be involved in the environment, the interstate highway system was built fully by the states, the feds just confiscated the money from the people, dealt it out to the states with a bunch of mandates and regulations and then let the states do all the work. Why do you want me to have health care if I don't want it? Are you saying the founding fathers were wrong about totalitarian government as well? You should be able to force me to do whatever I want as long as you think it is good? The federal government will not streamline the federal bureaucracy. They will only make it bigger, more powerful, better able to serve themselves and rob the people.

I think you forget the framers whether they were really educated or not knew of the many philosophical thoughts around at the time that indicated ideas about humanities needs beyond just a roof over their head. They would also have understood after Charles the first death that the state would have represent the citizen fairly or the people would rise up and challenge the state. the extent of where these departments of today are are really a measure of the foundation they created and our interpretation of course. a national heathcare may be good but did other nations equate national education the same way ?

Since when is our health care system inaccessible? ANYBODY who needs health care can get it.

If the government had not stuck their big fat snout into the system in the first place, there would not be a need for them to streamline anything.

THe government has artificially created a panic amongst the people concerning health care. Those in Congress who keep pushing this socialist bill, Mainly Reid and Pelosi should be brought up on treason charges for inciting a near panic and for creating a hiostile enviroment within our boarders. TREASON! ! ! ! !!!

    yes mr pink I do.

In the 1700s they had a global economy. It just took longer to ship things. Remember the boston tea party? Do you think they grew that tea in mass?

There has never been one child that was educated by the money wasted at the dept of education. In 1955 the average 12th graders vocabulary was 67,000 words. Today its 34,000 words. YEs the dept of ed surely has improved things!.

they did imagine a road system across the US. They were called post roads and specifically spoken of in the constitution.

The US has built the biggest and best health care system on the planet. All around the world, when people with money get anything more serious than a hang nail, they FLEE to the US.

The federal govt has never, not ever, not once , at any time LOWERED costs or streamlined anything successfully. There should be NO federal or state paper pushers that just add expense to our health care system.

The average overhead of charities in the US is about 28%. The overhead of the HHS dept , where the welfare goes thru is 72%. Yea, that is one STREAMLINED PROGRAM THERE!

the framers did take into account that chances might need to take place, but by amendment not by mob rule, there is no need for the department of education, since education is a state and individual responsibility, same as most things you claim are needed, they lead the ground work for the interstate road system through the build and maintain post roads. health care is not a federal issue,if it were they would have provided for it when they adopted the constitution. don't make things into a federal issue ,when clearly they are not

Well, it was a Republican (George W. Bush) who said the Constitution was just a goddamned piece of paper.

It is more than obvious that we do need healthcare reform.

Are you kidding all they care about is the 2nd Amendment and their right to carry a gun into a bar! They haven't a clue about much else and that is why they vote Republican.
