Can a global economy provide the opportunity for everyone to lead a full life if they chose to?
Do you think we will ever get to a point at which every nation has eliminated poverty and can provide employment for every person who wants it?
I realize that not everyone can or wants to work, and that economies run best with at least a few % unemployment, but my question is about the future of emerging economies and developing countries. In essence, ''Is there enough opportunity to go around?''
1 AnswerEconomics1 decade agoWhy do so many Americans fail to see the acceptance of Spanish as a second language as a gift for their kids?
Never has being bilingual hurt anybody. In fact, it is a gift. Why do so many Americans ignore the obvious benefits of bilingualism in favor of the argument that English will somehow lose out?
14 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoIf health care reform passes, will republicans just revoke it the next time they're in charge? Is this just?
a waste of time?
14 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoI have the solution to our national debt problem. What do you think?
Create an incident with China, then slap them with a trade embargo like Cuba, and refuse to repay our debt. Well? What do you think?
13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy does the US still impose a trade embargo with Cuba?
7 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIf health care reform passes, will subsidies to the poor be expected to be repaid like in Switzerland?
In Switzerland they require everyone have health insurance and those who receive subsidies have to repay them if they one day have the means. Is that stipulation going to be included in our system?
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhat is at the core of the disparity between Democrat health care reform and Republican opposition to it?
It seems hard to believe that both sides are being rational about this. The democrats are proposing a plan that they say will be beneficial, whereas the republicans claim that in fact the plan will wreak all sorts of havoc on our country. So, why the disparity? How can either democrats be so completely delusional, or republicans be so completely paranoid?
10 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoCan we put demands on the people who get government assistance?
Like, for example, if someone accepts government health care, food stamps, government subsidized housing etc... Can we make them all live in a colony for the needy, oh I don't know, in Utah for example?
6 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoIf you believe that the state of the economy is Obama's fault...?
do you also agree that Bush was asleep at the wheel during 9/11? Or was that a security breach inherited from the Clinton administration?
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhy didn't the people who wrecked their Toyota because of a stuck accelerator just put the car in neutral?
Or kill the ignition? Is there some design flaw that makes turning the car off or putting it in neutral at high speeds impossible?
I had an old Toyota land cruiser and the the accelerator cable snapped and the throttle opened up completely, I was in front of a friends house but I managed to kill the ignition in time to avoid tearing it down.
It just seems ridiculous that people died because of a stuck accelerator.
9 AnswersToyota1 decade agoWhy do those national rankings always ignore that we are #1? We're FREE, not Socialist like Europe. So why?
Why are we number 13? Don't they realize that we're FREE and AWESOME, and none of their social medicine or maternity leave or free higher education or higher per capita GDP or higher life expectancy or higher literacy rate can outdo that?
9 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo people who are against big government and flout the constitution as their reasoning realize...?
that the framers of the constitution had no way to possibly imagine the challenges of governing in the 20th and 21st century? So they laid a groundwork and gave rough guidelines. They never could have imagined the scope of our global economy. They never could have imagined the necessity of the departments of labor, of education, ATF, environment, state... and on and on. Do you think the framers could have ever imagined even just our interstate highway system?
Having a nationalized health care system is only a matter of time. The fed needs to streamline the health care system in order to cut the redundant state AND federal bureaucracy which make it inaccessible and overly expensive.
9 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhats the difference between the freedoms we lost with the Patriot acts, and what we're facing now? Is it just?
