Whats the difference between the freedoms we lost with the Patriot acts, and what we're facing now? Is it just?

I don't know what you mean by "facing now" but the Patriot Act gives the government the right to take anyone off the streets or out of their homes without due process of the law. They can be held without access to a lawyer, be tortured and held for years without any formal charges. They don't even have to tell their families where they are being held. They can also do wire tapes without getting a court order. That's all pretty scary stuff to me. Although the intentions of the Patriot Act at the time might have been good, unchecked power like that corrupts and can be misused by any whack job that happens to get in the FBI, CIA and other arms of the law.

The Patriot Act is up for renewal, and Obama's administration wants it renewed with maybe some tiny tweeks in a new bill with the anagram of JUSTICE. The 'Patriot Act' and JUSTICE, my, how cute.

It needs to be abolished and allowed to lapse. It continues and gets worse, in answer to your question, and the freedoms being lost now hit more people more obviously. If they don't tell you they are spying on you, you don't know. If they ruin your health care and force you to buy a policy you never would have picked for yourself, and you have to pay a ton more because you don't want to live like Pelosi wants you to, EVERYONE feels it intimately.

Its just another layer on top of the Patriot Act. What we are facing now is going to dictate what we can eat, how much we weigh, a new budget to pay for our health insurance, etc. It is going to be felt much more in our way of life. The plan is to discontinue the tax incentive given to employers to provide insurance to their employees. When that happens, everyone will be paying much more for their health insurance and rather than a copay, will have a $1300 deductible. Then if you smoke, drink, use drugs, or are too fat, it will cost 50% above what everyone else pays. I really see no benefit to this to anybody.

I forgot to mention cap and trade which will make everything more expensive. It will change our lifestyles even more than the health care bill.

We lost no freedoms under the Patriot Act and so far we haven't lost any under Obama but a lot of his proposals seem geared toward limiting the rights of the people..

No one can name any "freedoms we lost" with the Patriot Act. If you think you can, please tell me one freedom you lost.

We are now facing the loss of our right to choose our own health care. We are facing the loss of our right to decide how to spend what we earn (those of us who work for a living, that is). We are facing the loss of our freedom to tell people who make stupid, life or health threatening choices that they are responsible for their own choices and the consequences stemming from them.

Freedoms WE lost? Who's WE? I didn't lose any freedoms. Potential terrorists lost their freedom to murder Americans with impunity.
