What is your definition of a good question?

Why there are so extremely many silly and nonsense questions, that provoke a flood of even more silly nonsense answers?

So that it becomes boring to look for a good question or answer...

I don't mean those practical questions, that often are answered out of experience and help not to make mistakes and these are indeed useful.

Update:

I don't like the rigid form of questions & answers, but we can try to have some kind of exchange that goes further. So I will make my comment to your answer and then you can respond by editing your answer if you like. Let's see if this works...

My comments:

Update 2:

@BOuncing: An intelligent and a clearly written question is my definition of a good question.

Isidora: I don't think that one must be especially intelligent and able to write clearly to ask a good question.

Update 3:

@udaya: A question while reading, the mind should say Good.

Isidora: The mind might dominate you, but that doesn't mean that it is correct what it tells you. What about your feelings, your intuition or your gut feelings?

Update 4:

@Saskia: One that was needed to make a discovery about the subject and that led to other questions.

Isidora: I agree. This indeed might be a good question.

Update 5:

@kirthi: A good question is a question which is good.

Isidora: This answer makes me think if my question was so bad and silly that it has caused such an extremely silly answer.

Update 6:

@Antonio: i know my english is awfull not to say uncomprensible.

Isidora: Toni, your English is horrible, but not bad enough that I can't understand you. You should know that words are the vehicle or carrier of energy and this one can receive, so I can understand your answer well and what you are expressing is valuable and a good answer. Apart of this you could use the spell checker and a dictionary, in this way your English would improve fast.

Update 7:

@yellowmu: The measure of a good question is in how hard it is to answer it.

Isidora: If this would be also the measurement for a good answer, then yours would be good, but I don't think so.

Update 8:

@Sarah: ...a question is "good" when the answer is a matter of opinion.

Isidora: Questions coming out of opinions mostly are ask because the asker is seeking confirmation for ones established opinion. People are identified with their opinions, these form their personality and through this they are getting the feeling of existence. These questions are not creative and so not good.

Update 9:

@Private: A definition of a good question is when

your 3 year old child, keeps asking "WHY?"

Isidora: I admit that I have some difficulties stepping into the shoes of a 3 years old baby, especially when it is so much advanced for its age. When it keeps asking "Why" then it looks more like that it hasn't understood any thing and it seems the word "Why" is the only one it knows, not even knowing the meaning of it...

Update 10:

@Anita: One that would stimulate creative thinking and perhaps would also serve to find solutions to some burning issues.

Isidora: As far as I can see it, this is what describes best until now, what a good question is. Because this was a question one was carrying for some time, but not yet pronounced and so the good question triggers a creative thinking process and with that one comes to a 'creative solution'. So one doesn't find the answer by adapting oneself to an opinion or an offered concept, but it is the result of ones own growing process.

Update 11:

I thought it would be possible to use the space to have at least a little exchange beyond just the answer and the question, but it seems this is not what people want. There have been some good answers, so I'm not complaining. I will look around if I can find a discussion board...

Thanks all for your answers.

Isidora

Update 12:

@BeiYin: I like your answer. It points beyond the common Yahoo Answer level. I wish there would be more like this. I'm tired reading so many questions and answers that seem to be teenager games...

@Teddy: I like also your answer that would rise the level of Yahoo Answers, but reality is what there is...

A great question does not depend on any answer and not on any interpretation from people. A question can be good even it is not answered from another person. If the question comes from an authentic need to find an answer, then even the question is directed to the outside, the answer might show up from the inside of the person who is asking. When the question creates the opening and connection with the inner space, then it is a 'good question'.

    BeiYin

Edit: And of course the answer is good if it triggers and reminds one of the question one was carrying and not yet have pronounced it and then finally finding the answer because one has grown into it. In plain words: The answer comes out of ones *being* and not just from ones intellectual knowledge...

    On the other hand:

A question might be felt as good when it gives the opportunity to answer and so makes oneself feel confirmed in ones position and established self image. That's probably the majority of 'good questions' but for me these questions are just part of the personality games...

A question while reading, the mind should say Good.

It varies from individual to individual mind depending upon many factors inter alia how developed is the mind.

Details: Isidora - When mind is full developed, it merges with the Soul. Then the questoner and the answerer all will be the Witness the Soul. I said mind, due to my awareness, that the answerers are mostly of material plane of consciousness where mind dominates. You have said it yourself" why there are so extremely many silly and nonsese questions.........nonsense answers" meaning you are looking at the questons and answers from a spiritual plane of consciousness from where the sansara or the material world looks silly and nonsensical. If not, all the questons here should have confined to spiritual questions because the souls are interacting then. I could not therefore include intuition, gutfeeling and many other attributes of the Soul.

Well, I think all questions are good. But I think you mean "interesting"; and, in that case, in my humble oppion, any question that doesn't have one answer...the questions where the answers are a matter of opinion, are interesting. I mean, there's questions like "What's 2 + 2?" and there's a definite answer. But then there's questions like "Is there a God?" The question may not necessarily be hard to answer, but the thing is, there is not a definite one answer, it varies from person to person.

When we see that a question has more than one answer, I think it prompts us to find an answer. I wanna say that the answers to the questions I have been describing are our beliefs. And they're something that everyone wants to answer.

So, I think a question is "good" when the answer is a matter of opinion, and the an answer will differ from person to person, and comes from everything you experience.

A question is ask from a certain stand point, so even the level might be low compared to others, but it will be a good question if it is reaching out to go further, beyond ones still limited view.

If a question is ask to find just confirmation for ones position, then I wouldn't call it a good question even though it might serve its purpose.

i do think that a good question is that question in which u try to condense all the dubts and the ideas that u've been trying to solve without thinking of all the mistakes u think u could make on doing it, For example, i'm italian and i know my english is awfull not to say uncomprensible (considering that this term does really exists), but i'm tryng to comunicating something my brian is producting trhough all the biology fisiologic processes and i think that this is the most important think to insert into a question: trying to comunicate all u want and get the answers u think u need!

PS sorry for my engish but i've tried to be clearer than i could^^'

The measure of a good question is in how hard it is to answer it. Not because the question doesn't make sense, but because there is no common sense answer that people agree on.

A good question is a question which is good.

I meant that a good question is which makes you know about something , which does good for you and others.

Finding answer to a question really makes you know about some other thing.

A good question should make you think.
