11 year old having problems getting to sleep?

My 11 year old son has always been pretty good at getting to sleep at bed-time, but recently he's been having difficulty and is often still awake an hour or more after lights-out. If we were waking up early in the morning I would think that perhaps he was needing less sleep now but most mornings I still have to wake him up to get ready for school. He doesn't seem overly tired in the day time though. Does he just need less sleep ? Can I let him go to bed later or will I just shift the problem to a later time in the evening ? Currently I let him read for up to half an hour before lights out. Any ideas on helping him with this or in general on how much sleep an 11 year old needs ?

the exact same thing happens to me. did something happen to him at school? did he see or watch something scary? is he afraid of having nightmares? you should ask him these questions.

an 11 year old should get at least 7-9 hrs of sleep.

im 14 and have never been good at getting to sleep or getting enough sleep. i usually fall asleep at ten and wake up at 6, so i get around 8 hours, but very often i only get about 6 or 7. I always read before bed and it helps me. I take melatonin, which is an organic herb that helps people get to sleep.

simply dont fear. if its most effective two -three nights a month then your lovely fortunate. are those nights on a sunday by means of any danger? i often have challenge sound asleep on sunday nights for the reason that ive slept in on saturday and sunday and im easily no longer worn out. i quite wouldnt fear however a quite well tip is to move and take a seat in mattress like 30mins early and skim a magazine for a bit of with the lighting down low, it makes me SOO worn out. a different random factor ive determined works is to wrap my self in my cover (like a youngster in a blanket) for a few cause this quite works aswel and that i waft off rapidly. well success (oh and btw i quite recomend you steer clear of drugs at your age until your health practitioner says to , they may be able to get addictive)
