Why should God exist rather than nothing?
Theists often ask why something should exist rather than nothing. By invoking a deity, it seems to me you are just pushing the question back a step.
To Derik G and Argumentative, evolution by natural selection is much more than "just a sequence of random events". I suggest watching Potholer54's "Made Easy" series on Youtube if you believe evolution is just a "sequence of random events".
Don H, as Thomas Paine said, personal experiences like you describe are revelation to the first person only and hearsay to every other, and, consequently they are not obliged to believe it. Not having been there and witnessing the circumstances at the time this experience occurred, I'm in no position to offer an explanation.

I understand your premise, this is a bit along the lines of Occam's razor.
But for me nothing only begets nothingness, not an entire universe.
So I think the extra step is needed if we are to find out what is behind it all.
I believe it is God, but if it isn't God we will only find out by taking that extra step back.
If something is to be proven you must look for answers until there are no more questions.
So until there are no more questions on this subject I say lets keep pushing.
Peace and Blessings = )

Lolz..WE are pushing it back?
Oh theres absolutely no God im sure of it....but I dunno how we got here.
That's so much better.
You should look up the "singularity". Scientists have found God, they just won't say it.
So apparently mr cheesehead doesnt know alot about science.
Let me explain this: all matter breaks down. Period. Scientists base radiocarbon dating on this principal, even though they ignore the fact that there should be nothing left to degrade after trillions of years. If the universe were eternal, that would make it self replicating, which it obviously isnt. Scientists have already clearly shown the universe is winding down and degrading. Scientists have also shown that we are, on a most basic level, made from the same stuff as the rest of existance. If the universe were eternal and self replicating (which we know it isn't) so too would we be.

I would like anyone who opposes the existence of a God to offer evidence that proves their belief. Basic physics says that in order for something to exist, there must be influence from some sort of outside force. "Well that outside force was the Big Bang or some other occurence."--- True, but what caused that to happen? What came before the occurence? Of course my goal is not to push a belief on anyone, but to invoke a little more openness.
Anyways, saying that humans were formed from a sequence of random events is like saying that a fully functional automobile of today's standards was formed by the same means. So good luck
Source(s): In response to the OP's response to my original post =) The YouTube video you recommended was quite interesting. Saying this amongst many of my peers might be dubbed "heresy," but what if the being we call "God" and the unexplainable process of how we came into existence (the How's and Why's) are the same thing. The same being, just two different names. Just a thought! Thanks again for the video and everyone be open!! - MBLv 61 decade ago
Nothing can only cause nothing. You either believe in a creator or a natural cause for all existence.
Actual Infinites do not exist, Potential Infinites > First Cause
Which is more rational?
We are a blob of something for nothing, we are here for nothing and we exist JUST BECAUSE
Or that a creator is behind the harmony...

Religious people are the only ones who believe in an original 'nothingness'
Its just as much as a myth as God.
There is no reason whatsoever to believe that matter or energy in some form or other hasn't always existed, and no reason at all to believe that an original 'nothingness' or a God existed at all.
Basically religious people create a nothingness to fill with God, both are false

A complex life form, such as what we would call 'god' could only exist after a long evolution. Perhaps some being evolved enough to be able to travel through time, and went backwards and created himself.

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.

because I am not an accident, created here by some random explosion that happened in space billions of years ago.because I have a purpose, and I would much rather look foward to having a future after my death than just having my soul disintergrate in the ground

I respectfully disagree. I believe that, regarless of the number of steps we are from a definite answer, it will never become clear to the living, so anything works.

such philosophical questions aren't going to get sophisticated answers on a trivia thing such as Yahoo Answers. That's like finding a princess at Circle K . lol
Any who, to answer your question . You'll find out when you die. So don't worry about it right now mmmk . =3
