Putting a chip in my jetta?

I have an 03 jetta 1.8t Wolfsburg edition that I was considering getting tuned and putting a chip in. The only mods I've done to it are a cold air intake and a blow off valve as well as subs, but I don't think they're too relevant here. What would I be looking at cost wise and what are the pros and cons I can expect to get from doing this? Also with a long shot here: anyone know of any reputable place to get this done in the Houston area?

Pros: A lot more fun due to more power & torque

Cons: Fuel economy can worsen with the fun.

Limit the fun, fuel economy can actually improve.

Engine-life, as long as you properly maintain the engine, it will be fine. The 1.8T is a very stout motor.

    Cost? Around $400, starting

Where? Use these websites to find a local dealer:

    http://www.goapr.com/

    http://www.giacusa.com/

    http://www.revotechnik.com/

    http://www.unitronic.ca/

Source(s): my 08 Passat 2.0T is chipped with APR Stage 1, 93 octane

go to unitronic.com find a dealer. you'll never believe what this chip is going to do 50+ hp right away its like a whole new different car. i love my chip and have been going strong for 80,000+ miles. It doesnt wear down the engine. anything wears down an engine haha. its specifically programmed for our cars so its not a bad thing to put on. thousands of reliable vw owners say the chip is a must for our cars. go with unitronic, apr, or eurodyne ONLY! best chip software on the market. i have unitronic, apr's are good but not as aggressive.

i got my chip done at european leagacy there in houston and id go back to them again if i lived in houston still. they sell the apr chip or the revo chip. they told me it was the same chip just revo sells theirs alittle cheaper and apr gets a cut of the profit. those guys at european leagacy were real informative. and they've been around a while to find them go to apr.com and search for dealers and a few will pop up in the houston area just click on them and get directions. by the way a chip is definitly the way to go. get an exhuast with that cai and get the stage 2 chip it's worth it.

in the adventure that your going to place in a 'tuning chip', are you going to enhance something? a sparkling eu or re-map will purely be surprisingly greater efficient in case you strengthen respiration with new air filters, some style of uprated exhaust equipment so it breathes greater efficient out the back and/or new spark plugs or HT leads. maximum of those will make the remap (which could be greater efficient than a popular tuning chip) greater efficient, or you would be procuring a decrease priced and nasty plug 'n' play chip from fleabay and it will smash the gas economic equipment and shrink potential output. in the adventure that your going to song your vehicle, please do it maximum surprising. a professional re-map will strengthen gas economic equipment, and alongside with some decision mods, strengthen horsepower and transport. A chip bought off the internet isn't inevitably tuned on your automobiles specific desires.
