Would Jesus support Universal health care?

Update:

Rob Zuc - Doesn't matter what you call it, but I believe technically, its been the Repubs who call it the government option, and the Dems who call it the public option, but any intelligent person who can see through the semantics is aware that they are the same. The term Universal health care refers to universal coverage, that is, that no one is left uninsured. So IMHO, I don't think Jesus would have a problem with the term Universal health care, if that's what it is after all.

    reality check:

scores of americans go bankrupt daily because they had the bad fortune of getting sick and had an extended hospital stay

some low income people DIE because they have no insurance to pay for an expensive surgery or medication.

Source(s): ...do you think that'd be acceptable to Jesus? his pet peeve was people who ignore the poor "if you ignore the least of these people, i will ignore you on judgment day" Jesus

Depends upon which Jesus you are talking about...The Liberal Bleeding Heart Jesus or the Conservative Militant Jesus.

Jesus, like the bible, can be ANYTHING you want him to be by simply ignoring some sayings and highlighting other sayings...or by taking things out of context.

Jesus..like the bible and christianity, is a joke. Whatever Jesus actually stood for has been lost in time...Jesus is a tool, to be used to push any given agenda...from racism to pedophilia to slavery...and Conservatives are the masters at using this tool as a justification to beat people down.

No. In order to fund it, it requires STEALING people's money via taxation... what's more, NEVER in Scripture does Jesus ever himself go to the government or send others to the government for healing, food, etc. If you notice, when out of food, He Himself fed the multitudes. When people were sick, HE healed them. What's more, Jesus was in fact homeless and never sought public assistance, government housing, etc.

add: He taught PERSONAL responsibility and part of that is the individual CHOOSING to help those less fortunate, not having it forced by the gov.

Probably. Jesus could single-handedly provide universal health care.

    Yes.

He would some how make a dollar magically buy them all the best health care money could buy.

first off, he would probably support free healthcare (meaning doctors and whatnot helping out patients without any kind of payment), not "free healthcare" (the type that actually costs taxpayer dollars)

No. He healed people himself if you've ever read the bible. He didn't depend on other people to do it. But he is a fictional character so it doesn't matter.

    from the State? No.

He believed people should help one another....and not under duress...or did you forget the part about letting himself be sacrificed for the good of all?

He never directly addressed this issue. He would support individuals donating money voluntarily to help people who need health care though..

  • Who cares what some Hebrew sheep herder who lived two thousand years ago thinks about our government today? It's not like he has any divine power or anything.
