Does the U.S. Government really need to spend $1.4 TRILLION dollars to operate?

Isn't this just grossly wasteful? 3 times last years, which was the previous record. I know the Dem's are spend-a-holics, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Why, how are we spending this much? Especially with nothing to show.

Update:

Tenchiro - Yes, the left. The democrat Congress, Senate, and president are spending far more than ever before. Notice the $1.4 Trillion (with a T) deficit. Democrats are all about the tax and spend.

Update 2:

Thank you zaza- I did word this very poorly. I did mean that number as the deficit.

You misread the news, I think.

The deficit this year is $1.4 TRILLION, not the budget.

The 2009 fiscal year ended with a deficit of $1.4 trillion.

    Federal spending went up 18%

    Tax revenue fell 17%

Roughly 1/4 of the budget is defense spending, 1/4 Medicad/Medicare. and 1/4 social security.

if you think that number is bad how's about you bring up the 23.7 trillion dollars that bloomberg reported on as being printed out of think air by the federal reserve, and how they expect us the taxpayers to pay THAT.

1.4 trillion isn't so bad now isit.

BTW, that 23.7 trillion number is many months old, it's undoubtedly much higher. The bankers are just looting us before they complete thier police state grid and inject a real dictator into the mix. Obama was nothing more than an expariment to see if our country was ready to elect a the exact type of person that historically has been the image of so many of the greatest dictators. You know speaches that are full of emotion, but lack substance, stating that you want all these things the people want and doing the exact opposite, and looting the country and diverting everyone's attention with a whole series of distractions, usually millitary in nature. It's happened for thousands of years in much the same way, and now america seems to be ready to get wiped out by a tyranny. But I bet most of you will just dismiss me and move on, you know, untill you're in a fema camp barely alive.

    Wake up people!

On programs that never go anywhere like the summer job programs for teens. Summer came and went and all that money was wasted.

People quickly forget that we were in an economic crisis of historic and global proportions. President Obama did what was necessary (with no help from the repugs) and things are slowly getting better.

Have you already forgotten about the two wars the Bush adminsitration started?

No, the government is bloated, inefficient, and wasteful right now because of greedy politicians. They have fleeced us taxpayers, and preyed on the uninformed to make policy changes in the name of making things better that actually cost us more and provide less.

No one seemed to care about government spending until Obama was elected or when the GOP spent without question when they controlled both houses and the Presidency. I guess your cries were muted this decade.

  • No, but these are the same people who spend thousands for a $100 toilet. So are you really surprised?!
