Why do Republicans hate the troops?

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individu...

Please read the editorial before commenting. Seriously, its kind of the point.

Update:

Tapout - Ummm... tell me how pulling troops out of a war zone is bashing them?

Update 2:

Your sign here: Umm, if you read the article you;d get the point, that this is blatant hypocrisy. When Dems held up troop funding, they were anti-american, regardless of their reasons, and the same applies here. By their own logic, they should be signing off on this bill regardless of whats attached, because the troops' needs should trump everything.

And seriously, the name calling, does nothing to add any legitimacy to your argument.

Update 3:

Gentle giant - Actually, no its not based on a false premise whatsoever.

Its based on the blatant hypocrisy and political showmanship of the GOP in congress. They spent the past 8 years beating the drum of nationalism wrapped in the flag, claiming any dissent was borderline treason, and the minute they lose the White House, they make a 180 turn. C'mon dude.

Update 4:

Are some of you saying then, that you support assault and worse upon individuals due to their sexual orientation?

"When Dems held up troop funding, they were anti-american, regardless of their reasons, and the same applies here. By their own logic, they should be signing off on this bill regardless of whats attached, because the troops' needs should trump everything"

You're comparing apples and oranges. The Dems simply opposed the troop funding just because they could. They had no real reason except to try to score political points with the left. The Republicans are not opposed to funding for the troops under any circumstances. They are outraged that a hate crimes bill (a very bad bill by the way) was attached to military funding bill. And that hate crimes legislation has zilch to do with the troops.

"By their own logic, they should be signing off on this bill regardless of whats attached"

Really? Would that include an amendment that reads all jews should be thrown into concentration camps? Or that blacks should be put back into slavery?

Read the article again. Now what were the reasons that the Dems opposed the funding of the troops? Did the Republicans attach a bad bill that had nothing to do with the troops? No, the article doesnt say. The article tries to make a moral equivalence where none exists.

"Are some of you saying then, that you support assault and worse upon individuals due to their sexual orientation?"

No. We're saying that singling out certain segments of the population for special protection under the law, while other segments go without that that same protection is unequal. We're also saying that hate crimes laws are unconstitutional because it reaches into "thought crimes".

A couple years ago an SUV with several people in it pulled over, the people got out and assaulted an American soldier while the driver held a gun on him. While they did this they called him a murderer and a child rapist. This was what liberals did. We don't hate our troops, we don't call them names or assault them for defending the Country. This is an editorial, meaning its an opinion, not a fact.

I recall when I served the military pay bill was held up because abortion funding was attached to it. Its a sad state when a bill that can't stand on its own is attached to something necessary.

Our military is there to defend the Country, not to be used for a social experiment.

Let me get this straight. The democrats were just doing their job when they refused to support the troops. Not that the same democrats want to insert additional hate crime laws into support for the troops the republicans are the bad ones? It sounds a lot more like the democrats are playing their usual games while the republicans are trying to get honest funding through without the hidden extras.

It seems a lot more like the democrats are using troop funding as a tool to get more unpopular laws passed. Seems pretty cold and callous on their parts to use the troops that way. Then they try to blame it on the republicans who are trying to be responsible. Just pull the unrelated hate crime trash out and they'll be good to go.

More democratic lies. What a truly sick bunch they have running congress.

Actually, this is another fine example of how much Democrats hate our troops.

Listen to what Pelosi is saying here..

If you want to supply troops with even basic necessities... you also have to pass this completely unrelated, and completely unconstitutional amendment.

Could your kind hate Americans more?

Your question is based on a false premise which you support with false backup which leads you to a false conclusion.

The editorial ( by an unknown individual with a very common ideology)

is based on the writer's own prejudices and bad information.

This jerk has built a storyline to reach the conclusion he wanted to reach.

    It's intellectually dishonest

Why do you have a brain the size of a dot. Why do libs try to sneak bad laws on good legislation

fiscal year 2010 defense authorization bill -- because it contains hate crimes provisions designed to protect gays and lesbians.
