Do you ever read Holy Cards?
I love Holy Cards...The prayers are so spiritual.
For me they are absolute poetry I in prayer. The author's must be on a very high spiritual place (in their heart).
The pictures are so eloquent.
I have them marking my favorite pages in my Bibles. Some of them I've saved from funerals others I bought.
Do any of you keep Holy Cards or use them in prayer?
@Cara, yeah...those cards. There's hundreds of different ones at my local Bible bookstore. Different saints, different prayers and all sorts of causes.
@Callalily, That is so awsome...thank you for sharing, God Bless.

Yes! Like you, I keep a number of them in our family bible & other bibles. Through the years, we've collected quite a few. Some are very old- with exquisite art & remarkable prayers, not often heard today. My mother-in-law, who passed away many years ago, collected them. While reading the bible, I'll sometimes turn to a page & find one tucked inside, placed there years earlier, bookmarking certain related content.
*The Extra-Milage Holy Cards*
During the height my husband's cancer, an elderly gentleman from the Knights of Columbus gave us some St. Peregrine holy cards. 20 years before, the man endured the same rare type of cancer as my husband.. considered "end" stage & incurable. He believed St. Peregrine's intercession contributed to his cure. It's another long story, detailed in some of my past answers, but these days- my husband & I believe so, too. We've gone on to pass along these cards to others who request them in their fight against cancer.
*A Treasured Mass Card*
Some cards are kept in our nightstand. Among them are mass cards that commemorate the anniversaries of priestly ordinations- like our parish pastor, in celebration of his 25th Anniversary, previous parish pastor- to honor his 50th, & our monsignor- in remembrance of his 50th! They include prayers for priests. One cherished card is from when Pope John Paul II passed away. Our pastor went to the funeral in Rome & a special mass, officiated by Monsignor, was held at our parish. I sang at that mass & still have the beautiful card.
*The Unforgettable Card*
One card that's kept in our family bible stands out. It isn't a mass card. I received it while volunteering at Rolling Thunder, a huge motorcycle event held each Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C. A very special lady gave me this card. On the front is a photo of US Army S. Sgt. Matt Maupin- who was captured in Iraq on 4/09/04. On the back, there is a request to keep this card in the bible, along with a short prayer.
In 2008, Matt's remains were finally found & returned to his family. I didn't attend the funeral, but will never forget him- or the dear lady who gave me this card.
*The Ones We're Never Without*
A few other holy cards that our family keeps handy, in our wallets, purses or elsewhere nearby include: Sacred Heart of Jesus, Divine Mercy (Jesus I Trust in You), Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Immaculate Conception & Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Joseph, St. Anthony & St. Michael the Archangel.

What are Holy Cards? I'm Roman Catholic and I'm trying to make sense of this term. Do you mean cards with a prayer asking a particular saint to intercede for the person saying the prayer or do you mean memorial cards (where the details and a photo of the deceased person is on one side of the card and a prayer or quotation from the Bible is on the other)? Re prayers I find from time to time that I refer to the prayer asking St Anthony to intercede for me. I look at my loved ones' memorial cards too - sometimes it scares me at how much time has gone by since they passed away.

In my younger years, being brought up in a Roman Catholic school through the 9th grade, and having been an Altar Boy, I had a few Holy Cards. Somehow, life has a way of helping you lose some things along the way, but now I still have one, with the picture of the Bleeding Heart of Jesus on it, and a "Memoriam" and prayer for one of my uncles who died back in the 1980s. It is a beautifully artistic picture of Jesus, and reminds me of the beauty of the Holy cards I had back in the 1950's and 1960's. Thanks for the memories. God Bless you.

Yup. My favorites are the ones that give a brief bio of the saint on the back.

I carry several in my wallet. I take them out when Iam waiting for an appointment or sitting in church waiting for Mass to start

I have one of St Joseph, and one of the Memorae.
I used to read them more often.
