Pearce to Manly?

On 2UE yesterday:

'There's a very strong rumour that Mitchell Pearce is really busting to leave the Roosters - and if he can, Manly are waiting to grab him. This is the reason Orford remains unsigned for next year.

But then:

AFTER months of speculation, Manly are finally about to confirm the signings of their off-contract stars Matt Orford, Jamie Lyon, David Williams and Michael Robertson - and will then turn their attention to solving one of the main problems that held up their signatures, their search for a new chief executive.

Rumours are rumours yet Pearce would be great for Manly at the expense of Orford. Manly have to look to the future soon and I don't think signing Ox on a long contract is a good idea.

Thoughts? (looking forward to seeing some Manly fans' responses)

Their first priority should be their CEO. If things behind the scenes are not going smoothly it shows on the field - as in the first half of season 2009. Look at the difference with the Bulldogs and Eels once they got it right.

Even if they sign Pearce I would keep Orford. Yes he was awful in the Finals but he has also won us many games. An older head would be good to have around for the experience, especially if we have Foran (I really hope) as well as Pearce. Also it gives more options if players are injured etc.

We don't have many options in the halves which is why (I think) Jamie Lyon is played sometimes when he is obviously not fit. Extra players in the halves would put pressure on all players to really perform, but would also give more time to really overcome injuries.

Hope they get a new CEO sorted soon - and hope he is the right calibre person.

Geez mate that sounds like a great buy if they get him , as for Manly's present 1/2 back well seems depending on the day it is either Orford or Awful, and he is not getting any younger, admittedly he had a shocking 09 season, but I would be signing him for 1 more season to help blood young Foran, but Pearce is a gun and i think he would be a huge asset to the Eagles , every game i have watched him play he was the standout even when the Roosters were gone in a game Pearce would not give up and he has a very handy kicking game unlike Orford who is hot and cold in this dept. But i definitely agree with others that Manly need to sort out their CEO and get things together in the boardroom, and the sooner the better. Hey how about Dessie filling the CEO position and give Toovey a run at coach, he seems to do all the onfield coaching now anyway. LOL

Oh mate I would love it if we could sign Pierce to the club, he is just the kind of young talent we need, and he seems like a decent bloke too. Maybe he is not getting on too well with Brian Smith?

Where did you hear the second rumour that Manly were about to re-sign Orford? I'll be glad if they sign Orford, Robbo and Wolfie, as for Orford, well he had a pretty bad year this season, but he went great in 2008? I guess it shows you how important the form of the number seven is to the team. Manly did get off to a shocking start though, and I really got the feeling all year that they just weren't clicking as a team.

Yeah Manly really do need a new chief exec. although I'll bet you the reason they haven't got one yet is because Penn and Delmege are the ones really running the club now, and they are looking for a chief exec. that will do exactly what they say.

I think Pearce is just what Manly need and who could blame him for wanting to leave the Roosters. Orford is OK when things are going his way but he's not much chop when things are against him. Pearce gave the Roosters 100% every time he played and that's what Manly need, someone who will keep going and keep trying right to the end. Orford spent most of the season running sideways and cramping the backline and he hardly ever took on the line. He looked like he just gave up on more than one occasion. (semi against Melbourne) He's well past his best.

I've also heard that Liam Foran..Kierans brother

wants to leave roosters too and manly were hoping to sign him?

so i dont know whats going on

but i think Liam would be a good signing, his a fair good player and Kieran is always saying how he wants to play alongside his brother.

But with signing either pearce or liam it would ensure that kieran will stay......and we need him to stay!

With Matt Orford, his a good player but he has days where he just doesn't turn up and those days are the days we need him most

Im still not happy with his last performance against melbourne

when we needed him most he was completely gone.

Did you see his stats from that game?

    1 run

    0 metres

    0 tries

    0 try assists

    1 tackle bust

    0 linebreaks

    10 tackles

    3 missed tackles

    terrible....

But i think his just past his time now...his 31 and i think a good idea for him would be to have a year in england or something overseas but i think manly need to move on and sign someone like pearce or liam

Orford hasn't had the best of seasons but look at what he's had to0 work with. Stewart being out for nearly the whole season and Lyon outside Orford. Lyon had a wretched season due to injuries.

Orford has been going pretty badly this year: a telling factor would be age. He can't blame the players around him, as he is the main person to orchestrate attack. He's missed plenty of tackles as well, so someone young like Mitchell can come along and spark us up. Ox is also pretty close to retirement, so long contracts could turn out bad.

I don't rate Orford highly. Pearce is a great young half and will be a good asset to the Sea Eagles.

He'll be good for you guys. Orford isn't getting any younger. If you do buy him, you'll have a promising halves combo for years to come with Foran and now Pearce.
