As every students entering to college for the first time, they encountered many mixed feelings such as anxiety to a sense of independent. I believe that one of the hardest transformations is from high school to college. The first semester in college was tough and challenging, I felt unable to complete all the obligations to every courses. My only solution was self-reinforcement and self-determination. When I performed badly in one of my exams, I will immediately self-evaluate and negatively reinforced. At first, I viewed my self-reinforcement as a positive strategy to obtained good grades. But as my self-reinforcement increase throughout the semesters, I became aware of my problem and how my emotions and behaviors would rapidly changes. I started to dependent all my family’s approval and as well as my friends.
As the frequency of self-reinforcement increase, I started to view myself as worthless, stupid, and etc. For example, I would receive good and bad grades from different classes. I would focus more on the bad grade and negative reinforcement that I became thinking that I was unwilling and stupid. The negative thoughts increase over time that impacted my performance in school and my relationship with my family and friends. I strongly believe that my personality and past experiences play major roles that have increase the frequency of self-reinforcement. I have always been viewed as a quiet and shy person. One of the reasons that I am a shy person is due to my learning disability. I constantly was having thoughts about how would people viewed and treated me differently due to my learning disability. In my past experience in high school and secondary school, my peers and teachers would treat and viewed me differently due to my learning disability. Another factor that increases the frequency of self-reinforcement is having a low self-esteem. Together, my learning disability, low self-esteem, and personality led to the increase of the frequency of self-reinforcement; I started having feelings of depression and anxiety.
