Democrats refused a COLA for seniors. Doesn't this prove they are out to get Grandma?
For the first time in 30 years, the Democrats have refused to give seniors a cost of living increase, while at the same time making sure that members of Congress got one.
Doesn't this mean if they can't kill Grandma through health care reform, they will simply starve her to death? Anything to get rid of the prior obligations Democrats made in the past to get elected. Like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Now that seniors, after paying in their entire working lives and now finally ready to receive their financial reward, the Democrats pull out the rug. Right?
Thank you greedy bama.
The so called "Trust Fund" was raided back in the '80's when the Dems needed to spend more on pork and pet projects.
Social Security is Bernie Madhoff on steroids!

Maybe they think ACORN can register enough voters to replace the Seniors they might lose. It seems that they are ready to throw us Seniors under the bus. Unlike welfare slackers, we paid into the system all our working lives and now have it redistributed to those who never earned and paid into anything.

The COLA wasn't voted on, it comes from a 1972 law already in place. 1972 was... Nixon. The index the law specifies went down. That index is the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W).
Congress voted to suspend their 2010 pay raise.
Setting the record straight.

"while at the same time making sure that members of Congress got one."
This is the main problem. I understand making cuts, especially in a program that's going bankrupt, and had almost a 6% increase last year, but for congress to not take a cut is absurd.
Also, you forgot to mention the $250 they will be receiving, it's not much, but you should try and present arguments with all of the facts.

Good point. With a $1.6T deficit this year, what is a few more billion thrown to the fire? SocSec is supposed to have its own trust fund that is independent of politics. This case proves that Washington is borrowing from our future to pay for this current debacle going on now.

I don't get how they justify it, either. This past year was terrible on many of our retirees. I'd like to see Congress try to live solely on what SS pays.
The cost of everything went up, except housing, which barely impacts a lot of seniors, if their homes are paid off (unless they invested in real estate, like my parents), but a lot of areas are increasing property taxes to make up for the lower property values, which will impact seniors.
Source(s): Have some seniors already gotten that $250? My mom got a mysterious $250 from the gov't in the Spring and none of us can figure out why. lol - 1 decade ago
Liberal politicians pose as very caring and heartfelt about the lower to middle class. They're the same as all the other politicians; now that they're in power, but the Dem voter will keep falling for it.

if the COLA increase or lack of it was actually something that is votable.. you might have a point.
Since no one voted on it, and it is not "approved/ disapproved", once again, you are fabricating a slam on Dems and Obama.
Educate yourself as to how the COLA is determined. Hint... it has nothing to do with votes.

It's a good example of how the government fails to provide what they promise when democrats are in power. This is how government run programs work. The government only cares about themselves and who they can control.

That's still better than the death panels that the liberals wanted to form to shoot Grandma.

Seniors dont vote democratic, so they get screwed.
