Calling all Boxer Owners?

My cousin and his wife, with twin one year olds, just bought a boxer puppy. Yes, it wasn't from a GOOD source. My question is - how energetic are they? I'm trying to stand by for damage control now that the mistake has been made. They aren't a very active couple. Their idea of activity is throwing beer pong parties two nights out of the weekend. I'm very, very concerned for this poor puppy. Unfortunately, they got a female so when things start to go very wrong (no training classes, not enough exercise), we won't be able to take her, already having a female of our own. I'm just wondering if boxers can survive on maybe a half hour of walks a day?

I've owned Boxers my whole life and have had three of them. They were all very energetic. Sure, they could survive on a half hour of walks a day, but they won't be happy and they WILL develop behavior problems if all they're pent up energy isn't released. Try finding a better home for this pup asap. If you are willing to take it in, go for it, it doesn't matter if you already have a female they can get along just fine if you introduce them and socialize them correctly. I have a female Boxer and a female Staffordshire Bull Terrier and they love each other.

Boxers are very high energy dogs. They will manage with whatever you give them as far as exercise. Without training they can manifest several acting out behaviors. They will dig, jump fences ( 6 feet isn't high enough), and chew on anything. They are also very good natured. I have a 5 year old boxer and a 7 month old great dane, both females, both spayed. They get along great when they play and when the boxer has had enough she just walks away. Please encourage your family to give this pup at least basic obedience training. And watch out for the little guy.

Boxers are VERY active dogs by nature, and it's said that the owners should be very active as well. Boxers need lots of time to run and romp and jump and play.

I don't think ANY dog should survive on a half hour of walks a day. My kennel techs and kennel staff walk the dogs that are boarding with us 20 mins per dog 4 times per day. Each dog is also put outside in an acre of fenced in area and allowed to run/play/laze/whatever for another hour on top of those walks. This is done between the hours of 7am and 7pm (kennel hours).

All the ones I have met have a lot of energy and need a lot of exercise and play time or they can and will be come destructive just like bullies can. They also need to be socialized at a young age like any dog as they can easily become dog aggressive. I hope it all works out good luck!

most boxers are mildly energetic, but it really depends on the dog.
