Can some one tell me why?
The powers that be allow these electric scooters on the road with no insurance no regi, and no operators license. If I go one block without papers it would cost me through the nose.
I've seen them ignore the rules of the road, blow through red lights.cut people off and curse out licensed operators for not giving the them the right of way.
We here have a helmet law yet these people don't wear the and still get away with it. WHY?
the Helmet laws here include bicycles and yet the police still ignore the electric scooters.

i agree with you on that one....they fall under the 49cc law and that really blows.half of them if not more lost their license due to drinking and driving and now are stuck on the slowpeds.

Because, oddly, electric scooters are not "motor vehicles" because they cannot travel over 25 miles per hour (or should not, anyways). For this reason, they're more of a kid's toy or an electric bicycle than a motor vehicle, and don't meet DOT requirements for safety laws. Yet, anyways.

Depends what state you're in. Where I come from, if they're under a certain hp, they qualify as bicycles. Unfortunately, some pocketbikes fall into this category as well. What you have described pretty well describes the way most bicyclists behave, in my experience. As far as the helmet law goes, well, I guess cops are too busy catching "real" criminals.

I nearly backed into one the other day in a parking lot. The old trout driving it didn't even have one of those poles in the back of it with the red flag on it that drivers can see it!!
I work in a seniors assisted living complex and some of the people who run around town in them have dementia and you know their powers of judgement and quick reflex are pretty bad!
I am surprised we have only had one bad accident and a near fatality!

I hate the bloody things - a couple of the kids had them in my street. When I told them to get helmets on and obey the road rules they told me to F@#k off. The next time I went out on my bike here they are in front of me in the street - I went past them and planted my reb boot in ones butt and sent him flying into a hedge. They don't ride them around here anymore.Try that and see how you go.
Source(s): The cops asked me about it - I said it must've been another Harley rider as we all look alike - lol! - Anonymous1 decade ago
yeah, i agree.
its the same with bloody bicycle riders. they don't pay rego, yet they seem to think a 4 lane highway is their gym.
move 3 metres to the side of the road and use the bike paths that tax payers money has paid for!

You gonna cry about it or what?
