Would you join the military to get health insurance if you or your family had cancer?
In March, a father was laid off from his job as a raw materials coordinator for a plastics company called PolyOne, where he'd worked for 20 years. Then a few months after that, nearly triple again. They needed coverage so Mom could fight her cancer.
Dad's solution: a four-year hitch in the Army.
This is the most humane group ever on Yahoo Politics. Bless you.

If that was the only way my loved ones could get coverage (and in this dad's case, it was), then yes, I would do it in a heartbeat.
It's a truly sad state of affairs, when you have to make a choice like that to get healthcare. This is why we need healthcare reform, people!
Edit: I just talked to my own father about this, and he finally told me the real main reason he joined the Army. Yes, he had a sense of duty and a sense of patriotism, which were two factors in his decision, but his real motivating factor was my mom. You see, my mom has Type 1 diabetes. Neither my mom or my dad were working jobs which offered health insurance, and she couldn't buy insurance on her own-no company would take her due to her preexisting condition. My dad found out about the Army's healthcare policy, and enlisted to get coverage for my mom-much like this dad. He stayed in for twenty years-the minimum for someone at his rank to retire with full benefits. To quote him, "I love my country. I always have and always will. But I did it for your mom. The moment I knew she was covered for life, I retired."

I know my husband would have done anything to get coverage for me if I came down with cancer or any other disease. It's a shame that the man had to go to such drastic measures in order to provide care for his wife. This is only one scenerio of many in our country today. This is why I firmly believe in health care reform. ALL Americans should have coverage in this wonderful country of ours.

I would do it. Most responsible adults will try to solve their problems before looking for government aid programs. However, this is a textbook example of why we need healthcare reform.

i think of that Obama is in simple terms too concentration on changes and Mccain choose the failings to be greater effective and that i think of that Obama is in simple terms too youthful to appreciate the worldwide or you could say inexperience yet Mccain is the right age to appreciate the worldwide greater effective.

It is a solution. Unfortunately he may not be able to spend a lot of time with the person that he cares so much for.

Liberals and Democrats wouldn't go to that extreme. It involves work and earning a living.
I joined the Army to get an education. High SAT scores and being white and poor didn't rate the same as having medicore SAT scores and being black when it came to getting a scholarship.

I do admire his responsibility and dedication to his wife, but I see it as unfortunate for him to provide for her he has to enlist in the military.
USA is just turning into A great country now, isn't it?
