Hunters and fishermen. I am a hunter and fisherman, but an independent voter. I wonder why there is so much?

support for the Republican party and hatred of the Liberals here, when the Republican record on conservation, the environment, protection of forests, air quality, and water quality is so poor. It seems to be that business is put above everything else. These things are important to you if you want to continue outdoor activities like hunting. I hope you think about these things too, when you criticize Obama and others so much. Some of their policies benefit you, too.

Update:

I don't think of myself as a Commie Liberal. I served in the US Army. Did all of you? I do have a number of guns, 3 boats, and so much fishing tackle I can't count it. I do want more protection of the environment, though, and if you intend to continue to support the right wing, you must hold them accountable for the land, water and air. I am not the first person here to bring in Politics. I see anti liberal comments here almost daily. Anne Oakley has some good points, I think.

Update 2:

To Chris. I tend to agree with you. At least you can discuss this calmly. I really have not seen support for the environment from the right, though They are not doing much to prevent overcutting or keep the air and water clean. If they do, I will vote for them I have voted for a number of Republicans in the past, but starting with George W. Bush, I have lost faith in them.

Update 3:

Update 4:

Sorry for the duplication above. I also do not think that Obama has done anything for hunters or fishermen. I do think he, or his party, has some ideas regarding the environment that may help. This whole long question is about conserving forests, air and water. I want both parties to be concerned.

I disagree with Annie this is where hunters are and where they can ask questions pertinent to them.

As for Obama and Democrats go, He has done nothing nor accomplished anything in relationship to any of the issues surrounding hunting or the environment. He is not a hunter or a fisherman or an avid outdoors-man he does not identify himself with any outdoor group of any-kind. He's citified, and only responds to whatever the polls and his speech writers tell him to say. He is personally opposed to gun ownership and individual rights to free speech, freedom of the press and much of the U.S. constitution. His background is in socialism and totalitarianism and he desires same for the masses here in the USA.

In contrast most Republicans including those that ran against Obama have strong ties to the environment , a record that shows it and are outdoors-man and associate themselves with groups that do, are strong supporters of the 2nd amendment and the whole of the U.S. constitution.

Of course environmentalists do cross party lines but historically conservatives within both parties have the stronger reputation of supporting environmental issues and if it were not for the "Blue" Dem's Obama may have gotten more of what he wanted. I personally vote along environmental lines and many of the candidates I supported were not of either major party. So I support the issues that are important to me and Obama has not garnered my vote ever.

*added- The current environmental proposals I have seen deal with expanding national parks and closeing off fishing areas for underwater preseves. Both are not good for fisherpeople and hunters. That's always been the democratic approach it creates jobs for union democrates and closes off land for renewable resource uses niether of which are good for our economy.

Human caused global arming is a lie. Carbon is not a pollutant. the amount of carbon released by humans in a year is only a very small fraction of what is released by a volcano in a matter of minutes.

Liberals pass gun laws, Conservatives don't. Republican believe in conservation ie. smart use of resources. Liberals try and push "preservation" which has been shown to be a major contributor to forest fires do to the increase in undergrowth. The water in the US is cleaner today than it was 100 years ago.

If you don't have business to make money, then how do you afford to go hunting after the liberal taxes. Cap and Trade will just force companies to move overseas and increase the price of products to the consumer. If you increase tax on a business, they don't shoulder the burden, the consumer does.

well how are you gonna hunt when they out law your bolt action rifle or 12 ga. as an "assault weapon. I'm just Republican because there the lesser of the two evils and I know they don't plan on disarming America anytime soon. To be dead serious any one who will let me keep a AR15 w/ a red dot scope, collapsible stock, 30 round mag loaded with FMJ and a 16'inch barrel in my home ready to go is a friend in my book. I remember hearing Obama was against civilian ownership of guns and against you having the right to protect your life with your gun. big talk for somebody who is surrounded by secret service agents armed and military sniper covering his a**.

As for me personally I don't like liberals when I drive in the city they call me a bad person just because I drive a 4x4 truck. that's un called for. they ***** about the enviorment and stuff but they come out where the people they complain out live to get close to nature because we take care of our stuff. Can't say the same about city folks.

Please take your discussion of politics to the Politics Section.

Hunting is something that people who have vast differences can have in common.

Who you vote for and who you didn't vote for shouldn't matter when your talking with people with common interests. Yes, people don't agree on everything.. that's just human nature, but there's a time and place for everything, and sorry, but this isn't the place for talking politics.

Hunters and fishermen/women, no matter their political choices, should work together to support what we all enjoy. So our kids and their kids and theirs can enjoy what we are enjoying now.

    Added--

About who's in office now, I have strong opinions about it and I've read a good bit also, but I'm not going to discuss it here... don't feel like getting into an arguement about how good/bad he is.
