Why aren't there enough companies making H1N1 vaccines to meet U.S. demand?

Seems with demand this high, pharmaceutical companies would be lining up for the chance to make money.

Also, why is only one of the four companies making U.S. H1N1 vaccine American?

And why did the number of American vaccine producers fall from 26 in 1967 to five in 2004?

And why hasn't the method for making vaccines (using chicken eggs) been improved in decades?

Has that vaccine been approved by the FDA?

Does it scare anyone else that a flu vaccine gets approved in a matter of weeks, but a blood pressure medication takes 5 years to get approved?

To answer your question. The big companies pushed out the smaller ones. This is often what happens when the big guys buy their contracts from our upstanding elected officials.

This is also the real reason for "regulation". Politicians use these "regulations" to put the little guys out of business and cater to their political contributers.

I don't think the demand is that high. I think government officials are trying to drive demand up by making it 'scarce'. People always seem to want what they can't have.

They do this with the regular flu vaccine too. Just pay attention to what's going on around you. Small shipments of vaccine only for select high risk groups 'at this time'. Come and get it! Ding ding ding!!! While supplies last!

But they always end up with enough vaccines to meet the demand that they created. People are stupid.

That is the way that the Obama administration wants things. It is just another method to control all aspects of human life in this country.

It's Obama's fault for not being prepared. This is on his watch and he can't blame Bush for this one, although the liberal media probably will. They are just an extension of the democrat party.
