What Motivates Dick Cheney?

Cheney is a 'true believer'. He sees the world through his own perceptions. When he says Barack is 'dithering', he literally means what he's saying because that's how he sees nuanced decision making. The situation in Afghanistan isn't going to get better or worse in the next several months. It's coming on winter in Afghanistan and as a rule almost all fighting comes to an end simply because Afghan fighters aren't really equipped for trudging through snowdrifts anymore than anyone else. The passes aren't passable and the Taliban have no air capability. By spring the situation will be totally different now that Pakistan is in the war....a few dozen bombs set off by Taliban and Al Qaeda lunatics got the Pakistan government's attention. Cheney doesn't see it that way...his belief system insists that the US should go in and clear out the country of ANYONE not on OUR side..an impossible task...even Alexander the Great couldn't do it and he was totally ruthless. The Brits, slightly less ruthless didn't do the job either and the Russians, even more ruthless than Alexander or the Mongols and a few other invaders didn't last very long either. No matter what Barack does or doesn't do, this war is lost...eight years and counting...what does it take to convince Cheney? When you're dealing with a fanatic, NOTHING will convince them. Sad but true!

WHY must one have something to "gain" from it in order to do it? WHY should he worry what others think of how he "appears"? It's his message he's concerned with.
