United Airlines cost me hours delays & flight, only to fly Continental?

Short and to the point here,

Because of the delay at the United Airlines Desk, Coming home

from S.Korea to Dulles. I missed my UA connecting flight to my final

destination of Newark Airport as well as 5 other customers. The next flight

they offered was 8 hours later. Not Acceptable. I flew home using

Continental. This cost me quite a bit more. Who would I call or write

for a refund for my flight home which was $ 100.00 more than what

they are willing to give me because of their mistake. I'm discreetly told its United Airlines agents which have been outsourced to people who are ( at the moment ) unfamiliar with operations. This is the reason

I was given. * I'm doing this letter for a friend with no computer so

bear with me here *

Thanks in Advance

You won't receive any compensation for a missed connection, though airlines may offer varying degrees of assistance, depending on the situation. If you miss a connection because of mechanical problems, flight delays, or something else within the airline's control—or alternatively, because of inclement weather—the carrier should re-book you on its next available flight.

That's what they offered to do. They really have no responsibility beyond that.

That being said, telephone and fax numbers for Customer Relations are:

    Telephone: (877) 228-1327 (toll-free)

    Fax: (877) 406-1059 (toll-free) or (847) 700-2214

Here's the site for customer relations, with a complaint form:

    http://www.united.com/page/specialpage/0,1451,2076...

If your friend is a frequent flier with United, they'll pay more attention to the complaint.

My job requires alot of traveling and I've traveled just about all the airlines and personally I think Southwest is. At first I was hesitant to fly Southwest because of the "no seat assignment" thing and they board by class and I'm usually arriving at the airport 30 minutes before I take off, but after a flying Southwest several times I began to enjoy it. Rapid Rewards points are earned faster and they are definitely the cheapest for a last minute flights. Also, I'm 6/1 and I think there's more room space, I just flew to NY via US Airways I was on a row all by myself and I still felt as though my knees were in my chest.....

Sorry the airlines will not compensate you for this. They offered you a flight that leaves 8 hours later and you did not take it. You can try writing to United but I doubt they will do anything except maybe send you a voucher for some money off your next flight.

You missed the connecting flight because of delays at the desk? What desk? Are you saying your flight from Korea left late because they were slow checking everybody in, and therefor arrived late at IAD, and that caused you to miss your connection? Was that really the cause of the flight being late? How late was it? Hw much time did you have at Dulles?

You aren't likely going to get any compensation more than what they have offered. They did what they are required to do by booking you onto the next available flight. Their obligation ends there. You can certainly try, but I wouldn't expect more than what they have offered already.

I would think United Airlines would be responsible for your delay. Start there, probably with a customer service supervisor. Good luck!

I just read a beak called "Shocked, Appalled, and Dismayed"

The book tells you how to write letters of complaint that get results, they even have actual real life example letters in the book that are exactly like the situation you went through.

Rent that book and you will most definitely get your money back.
