Why do people keep saying "Fail!" "Epic Fail" & "Pwned"?

Okay, so if i accidentely drop something, i would hear "Fail."

I didn't fail, i just dropped something, a failiure is losing, if you fail, you have lost and by dropping something how did i lose?

Epic means long, if you have a long story, you have an epic story, but say i fell over, someone may shout, "Epic Fail!" Long fail? So, i failed long? I failed a lot? Doesn't make sense. Also, the word Pwned is anoying me because to own something, it is yours and if say on COD4 or something, they kill you and first of all say, owned, how do they own me? I'm dead? (In the game) but the word Pwned is even more annoying because it's not even a real word, it's like me killing someone and saying you got wegipherded. Pwned came from a typo in World Of Warcraft, but people think it is cool or clever to keep on saying it. It's annoying as hell, why do people do it?!

Before the word really blew up, "epic" was a term used to describe something that possessed extraordinary magnificence. It's just one of those words that's now become a staple in modern slang.

    I totally agree with you!

I was born in Sydney but lived in America where people don't say stupid sayings like 'Ring in!/Ring out!' or 'Epic fail'. When I moved back it had become this really cool thing! AHH! I hate it so much. Why can't idiots just speak normally and not rudely put everyone down while obviously sounding like idiots anyway.

But to answer your question, they do it because someone started saying it, either by accident or just making up some saying, or found somebody saying it online or msn, then copied and labeled it as cool and 'in'. Then people copy the cool popular saying.

But yeah my most hated is 'Ring in/Chyme in' or whatever.

People would say "fail" when you do anything wrong.. even when you do things right.

All of those words are so played out its annoying.

People do it because everybody else is doing it and they think its cool.

My advice is just to go along with it and not to look annoyed because they will bother you more.

Some people are extreme jerks and they know they are.

    this makes them feel bad.

Because they feel bad and are jerks at the same time they have a singular way of making themselves feel better.

They attempt to make some one else feel bad.

In semi-current jargon the three words; epic, fail, and p'owned are used along with a smattering of other derogatory misplacement.

Think of it more as the cry of the loser-bird, as it generally is.

Internet memes have made their way into the physical world. To be honest, I quite like them. They express new concepts not quite possible in standard English.
