Ok, I have never heard of these dogs, have you?
My mother was reading the classifieds yesterday and she came across an add selling mini pit bulls. said Pure bred Pit Bulls, no more than 20lbs fully grown!! I tried to look it up online, but found like pinscher/pit bull mixes they were calling minis, but come on now. I cant imagine that someone would try to teacup a pit bull, so to speak. So I do not know ANYTHING about breeding or how it works, so do you think they are pure bred, or mixes that people are saying are pure like the razors edge Pits? I am curious, but i think it is a horrible idea. I dont understand how being smaller than a purebred APBT would be benificial to the breed. And the add my mother read was asking $2500 a pup for females and $2000 for males. So dog section, your opinions please?
I dont have a link, it was just a classified add that my mother was reading in her local newspaper. I just thought wow...I mean i know the overbred, mixed breed monsters on steroid Pits as I call them. And I know what a breed standard APBT is, though for every 10 dogs i see that is called a pit, Im lucky if one is even a pure breed. I just thought this one was nuts. An APBT that is under 20 lbs full grown, thats ridiculous
Trust me, I am not or would never think of buying these dogs, or any dogs from a byb. I dont even buy dogs, I rescue all of mine. I only have one dog now and she happens to be a byb shutdown rescue, and suprisingly, she is breed standard.
Love is a gsd-- wow. see i searched for pics of mini pits and came up with pics of known mixes. That link is crazy.. look at those dogs, they are small like mine, but sooo stocky and still have those hudge heads. wow. they still look like monsters on steroids, just short ones.lol. Pocket Pits, wow. That is just crazy. I dont understand why you would want this breed to be any bigger or smaller than what they are supposed to be. I mean, when i first rescued mine, i thought she was going to be huge considering where she came from. I did sooo much research, everyday for over a year. and as the weeks went by with her growth being right on breed standard, i was pleasently suprised. I am very happy that she is normal sized for this breed. She would be unmanagable if she was huge and I cant see the point to have her smaller. At 44lbs, she is the perfect size. I just dont get it. ( sigh)

WELL BRED American pit bull terriers are small enough, on average 30-40lbs, with some well bred males being up to 60 lbs, but usually smaller.
A 20lb APBT? only 10lbs lighter then the standard calls for, so someone having APBTs smaller then 20lbs COULD just have very poorly bred ones. But ANYONE telling me they have a "purebred pit bull" doesn't have purebred sh*t. The intelligent ones out there with actual American Pit Bull Terriers clearly define that they have purebred American Pit Bull Terriers.
EDIT: OH the stupidity. So I just visited a "pit bull" forum, where pit bull "experts" supposedly sit around and chat. Someone brought up mini pits, and I guess there really are "mini pits", but they are called "pocket pits" (what will they think of next?). Of course, all the idiots were like "Hey, I think my pit is a pocket pit, he's only 45lbs!"
*FOREHEAD SLAP*

CLEARLY staffordshire mixes, most likely with bulldog to get that big, bulky girth. There probably isn't ANY "pit bull" (american pit bull terrier) in most of those dogs.
EDIT: I know Chaos!! These dogs just give APBTs AND bulldogs a bad name! Why breeding would be done to such extremes just for a "tough man" look is beyond me. Who even decided these hippo monsters were "tough"? True dog fighters don't have dogs like these! In fact, sad enough as it is, people who actually illegally fight pit bulls have better bred dogs then most! Because their dogs are small and lean and athletic, how they were originally bred, to excel at fighting.
EDIT 2: Now it's just time to go scoop my eyes out with sporks. As if "pocket pits" aren't enough, they have "SUPER pocket pits!"
Only 15" tall but 42lbs? What kind of mutant monsters are these dogs?

His @$$ looks like a chihuahua, and if that dog DOESN'T have chi in him, I'll give my car away.

I have heard of people selling "mini" pit bulls too! Actually, I've seen several "mini breeds" cropping up.
Mini Rotties
Mini Mastiffs (oh yes, I kid you not)
Mini Malamutes
(shudders) Just to name a few.
I've never seen any of them attempt that kind of asking price though. Wow.
It's not really for any benefit other than their own wallets. I think it's disgusting. I suppose they *technically* be pure breeds, if the person just bred smaller & smaller dogs. As we all know pure breed doesn't mean good breeding. They could also just as easily be mixed with something else. It's hard to say.
Did they have a photo with their ad? I'd be very curious to see it.
Add: I never realized this was so common. Yikes.

The only miniature bully breed I heard of is the Miniature Bull terrier.
APBTs are commonly weigh anywhere between 35-55 pounds. Originally they weighed anywhere from 20-40pounds, they were bred down smaller for fighting. I've heard of ones getting anywhere from 22-110 pounds though, I'm pretty sure they were crossed with other larger breeds to get that size though.
So if someone is selling those dogs its likely a mix or maybe bad breeding of runts to runts, like they do with the yorkies, only instead of calling those dogs "mini"s they call them "tea cups". That's a laugh as there is only one breed size for the breed.
Anyway, its quite possible they are mutts, to be bred down to that size or maybe runt to runt, I don't know. I know I never believe anything in a pet classified as most of the people that use them are back yard breeders and don't have a clue about the breed they are breeding.

I would say they are mixes.. not purebred dogs.
There is no benefit to making pits smaller.. they had a reason to be the size they are. The only concept behind the "mini" idea of most breeds is so that people can have the appearance of a certain breed, with the smaller size.. the result is a mongrel that does not really look like the breed they claim it to be.

My opinion is that everyday more and more crooks think it's a great idea to f*ck with the genetics of dogs to make money off of idiots.
They could either be purebred Pits that were bred down (unlikely) or they are mixes of a smaller breed. Either way, very poorly bred and not worth more than the $50.00 the vaccines cost the people. $2500.00 is outrageous, do you have a link for this article? Or was it in a newspaper?

Love is a gsd- That second pict makes me want to hurl. That dog is seriously deformed. How anyone could think that dog is cool, cute or whatnot is beyond me.
Mini pits are just another gimmick like the bully mutts being peddled as APBT by greeders, mini pits are mutts or they are like the teacup scam runts bred from other poor runt stock. A few of those pics love put are those bully mutts just shorter.

Sounds like the same idiots that refer to their toy breeds as teacups and give their mutts names like Labradoodle.
These dogs are actually worthless. The BYB is just trying to trick people in to thinking they are rare by calling them mini.
No reputable breeder advertises in the classifieds.
Don't even get me started on the price...

each and each breed has their own customary. A white Siberian Husky with blue eyes could be completely perfect. A white Labrador Retreiver with blue eyes, no longer lots. Many breeds penalize white markings, too; a small white spot on the chest is fantastic (the smaller the extra effectual) for some, like Gordon Setters, yet a brilliant white patch or white feet is a no-no.

pitbulls themselves are mutts not pure bred. so people pay ridiculous amounts for a mixed breed anyway. no dog is purebred. theres no such thing as aa mini pitbull but people buy into stuff. its like theres no such thing as a teacup dog really. maybe as puppies. any dog can be a teacup puppy, then they grow. thats what people dont realize.

No, they are mutts with a huge price tag because morons will buy into it.
Poorly bred, and about $50 at your local shelter.
