Do people understand what the U.S. is about?
The United States of America is a coalition of states. States are sovereign entities like countries. The U.S. Constitution is a treaty among these states allowing a central government to exercise certain powers which are enumerated (numbered) in the constitution.
My question: Why are these states allowing the government to exercise powers wich are not in the U.S. Constitution?

The War of Northern Agression in the early 1860's pretty much established that the federal government had the power and the states couldn't do a whole lot about it. However the states do have their "ambassadors" to the federal government. They are called Senators. The federal government can't do much without their cooperation.
Neither the Senate or House of Representatives, or the courts really care much about "enumerated powers" any more.

Very good question! To find the answer you must follow the money. Guaranteed someone is making a fortune every time the Federal government exercises powers that are not theirs by Constitutional Law.

Because they ceded their absolute authority to the national government. 14th Amendment nationalized everything by extending constitutional rights of citizens of national Government to citizens of individual state governments. Before then, you had US constitutional rights if the FBI arrested you, but not if the state police arrested you. You only had the rights within your state's borders that were guaranteed by your state's constitution.
And since our legal system is based on the English system of common (judge made) law, and not the French system of legislative supremacy, the Supreme Court has sucked more of the powers from the states and given it to the national government through its various rulings..

Excellent question!
The answer is that the states have so mismanaged their fiscal houses that they need the money from the fed to survive. So they're looking the other way and by doing so, weakening the principle of Federalism

Because they got their butts kicked in the 1860's and do not want it to happen again.

Your good old USA is ******, is why. It's sad that despite the USA's many failings, it's still more appealing than the UK to me.
