When answering homework questions...?

When answering homework questions, in your opinion, do you think it's better to answer the question or just give the person some help toward the answer?

I believe it is best to help them toward the answer because that way they might actually learn something and understand it. They may just be being lazy and not trying hard to answer the question themselves so it will also make them use their brain and think. I hope this helps!

When I see a list of questions, I will not answer them but will point the person in the direction to find the answers. The purpose of homework is to learn something not to have it done for you. Same with math questions I will offer an example and explain that, but just giving an answer no.

I am always suspicious of those that ask by stating easy or simple homework question. If it is easy or simply why is it posted here? That always seems to me to say, I was just too lazy to do it myself.

    It depends.

If it's in person and a friend asks me for help, and there's enough time, then I'll help them toward the answer.

But if it's something posted on yahoo answers or what have you, or if there's little time then I'll give the answer if I can

Help the person find the answer for themselves. If the question is answered for them, they end up learning nothing

In terms of math, I think its best to use a different example to walk them through it so they don't just be lazy and copy the answer and not learn anything.

I think it is better to help the person and guide them other than giving them the answer because when you give it to them, they don't learn anything. At least when you guide them, they can think about what you said and build on that.

    sorry for the long response.

most of the time if they've asked a list of questions i demonstrate through thoroughly one and then tell them to do the rest on their own because they know how to.

Some people are genuinely stuck on some things, but others are just plain lazy and at times its hard to spot the difference

They'll never learn if you just give them the answer. I generally tend to give the answer and show how I did it.

Right, just answer it entirely, or else there is the chance that it still isn't clear to the person.

I just answer the question if its easy, because I like to :)
