Is there a second resurrection for non believers?

Revelation 20:4-6

4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

I presume this passage means that true believers will rule with Jesus and His future kingdom for a thousand years. After this the rest of the dead will be resurrected and be taught God's ways. I could be wrong.

Who is 'the rest of the dead' referring to?

Update:

@ oldguy63

//14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.// This sounds like death itself will be thrown away meaning no more death.

The first resurrection is for those chosen to rule as kings and priests with Jesus Christ for 1000 years. As soon as they pass away here on earth they are 'resurrected' to heaven as spirit persons, awaiting the start of the millenial rule. Revelation gives a specific number of 144,000 (Rev 7:4) who will have this hope. (Rev 20:4-6)

At God's appointed time Armageddon will put an end to this wicked system of things. Those who die at Armageddon have the 'second death', no chance of a resurrection. After Armageddon is when the 1000 year reign of Christ begins. This is when sickness and death as we know it ends. Also this is when the 'rest of the dead' are resurrected. They are the ones who did not have the heavenly resurrection but are recipients of an earthly resurrection. They are made up of righteous and unrighteous people (Acts 24:15) who are given another chance to take their stand for righteousness and be worshippers of God. Those who at this point choose not to submit themselves to God will lose their lives and have the 'second death'. Over the 1000 years people will still be judged worthy or unworthy of everlasting immortal life. Those judged unworthy will have the second death. After the 1000 years Satan will once again be let loose for one final test. Once this test is over Satan, his demons and all who chose to follow him will have the second death. Those who still stayed faithful and did not follow Satan gain immortality. Death in all its forms is cast into the 'lake of fire', never to be a factor again. We will then be direct subjects of Jehovah God, his earthly sons and daughters.

the scriptures (Rev 20:5) say that the rest of the dead did not come to life until the end of the 1000 years - that means that the full benefits of Christs ransom sacrifice do not come into play until now when we are fully perfected and immortality is recieved and we know what it is to really live!

I hope I have made sense and have been of some help to you. I would love to get you more scriptures but it is late. Please I hope you will go to http://www.watchtower.org/ to find out more.

If you bow down to satan (antichrist) when he comes impersonating Jesus, you've committed the only unforgivable sin . Mark 3:28-29

Jesus Battles satan 1 corr 15:52 lasts as long as a twinkling of a eye

For a Millenium , we who understood the bible , will be in heaven(where ever God is) with Jesus. Not Ruling, but being able to leave the Great City,(Rev 9:27), to TEACH to our loved ones of the word, JESUS.

If you study ,dig deeper, Rev 20:4 This is saying that the rest (those who have past away before satan's return and battle with Jesus) Will not Live until the Millennium (thousand years) is over, This is When satan will be released again .

All souls will be there this time(the rest of the dead) They have to be tempted by satan . If anyone chooses satan over God this time, They will not live, they will die.

    It is Done.

    Good Question.

The rest of the dead will be raised for judgment and cast into hell, not raise to be taught God's ways.

Rev 20 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

(John 5:28-29) Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

According to Islam, all humans will be resurrected no matter what. The Day of Judgement will be a strenuous one, and will lead to many sufferings for the non believers in God and His prophets. The believers will find it much easier than the non believers.

You have it right...The first resurrection is those who will be priests and kings with Jesus for a thousand years.

Jesus said that I have other sheep that are not of this fold.

(John 10:16) “And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd.

The book of Revelation gives us more Information of these to groups.

(Revelation 7:4) And I heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel:

Then in verse 9 (Revelation 7:9) After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.

So you see some will go to heaven to rule with Jesus, this is the first resurrection.

The great crowd mentioned in verse 9 ...these are the ones that will survive the great tribulation here on earth...these are the ones that will welcome those that will take part in the second resurrection.

    The second resurrection is this:

(John 5:28-29) Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

Both righteous and unrighteous will be resurrected to life on earth.

What is the meaning of John 5:28, 29? It says: “All those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.” What Jesus said here must be understood in the light of the later revelation that he gave to John. (See Revelation 20:12, 13) Both those who formerly did good things and those who formerly practiced bad things will be “judged individually according to their deeds.” What deeds? If we were to take the view that people were going to be condemned on the basis of deeds in their past life, that would be inconsistent with Romans 6:7: “He who has died has been acquitted from his sin.” It would also be unreasonable to resurrect people simply for them to be destroyed. So, at John 5:28, 29a, Jesus was pointing ahead to the resurrection; then, in the remainder of verse 29, he was expressing the outcome after they had been uplifted to human perfection and been put on judgment.

Yes, that is exactly right. All of humanity will eventually be saved. I'll never understand this whole "rotting in Hell for all eternity" thing. It was made by men and their strange love of fire-and-brimstone preaching, not God. God is not that cruel.

Yep.....the secound resurrection is for the lost.....it takes place after the thousand years are finished.

Yes, that's what the Holy Bible tells us.

The righteous dead are resurrected before the 1,000 year millenium.

The wicked dead are resurrected after the 1,000 year millenium.

The rest of the dead, in v5, refers to the wicked dead.
