can my landlord really drill my radiator to try to fix it if hes not gas safe registered?
concerned
are these being answered with knowledge or what?..it has everything to do with the gas. the pipes that run from your radiators connect directly to the combi boiler, which is connected to and uses gas.
he says he wants to drill the bleed nipple out cos they snapped off. its to save him replacing the rad.

what has a radiator got to do with gas? its a plumbing job not gas fitting
edit : the pipes run to the combi boiler which uses gas to heat the water , the hot water is then transported through the pipe to the radiator to heat it up - no gas is involved , just hot water. water running through a pipe is classed as plumbing. The gas is only used to heat the water and is a seperate system to the plumbing used in the radiator.
bleed nipples are used to force excess air out of the radiator , the air is caused by steam from the hot water. if you do not bleed the radiator on a ragular basis it will fill with air and then there will be no space for the hot water hence no heat in the radiator. the worst that could happen with drilling out the valve is a water leak (not a gas leak , gas does not travel into your radiators).
edit: forgot to metion that when he does drill out the bleed nipple you will hear a hissing noise , this is not gas escaping , its the air thats trapped in the raidiator

Radiators are filled with water. The Combi boiler is heated by gas and this provides water for your radiator. I think that you have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, I don't think that he intends drilling the radiators.Even if he does, there is no gas in your radiator just water.
There is no need to replace your rad if this can be repaired. Perhaps you think that your rent gives your landlord a huge profit. However you should consider his expenses. He is responsible for repairs and renewals and much more. If you have a landlord who is deligent about your radiators and other repairs, you should feel happy and secure.

It is OK since the gas in the boiler heats water in the radiator and the gas does not come into contact with the water but heats it through a heat exchanger. He should make sure that his drill is safe though and is correctly wired.

As all of above , gas safe is only concerned with the gas supply side of the combi , doing what he intends to do ,drill and re tap the rad is a common solution to the problem of a damaged air release screw

The pipes to the radiators contain water, not gas.
It's perfectly legitimate to work on the radiators without being gas-safe..

It's OK if its just fixing the radiator to the wall . No plumbing or gas involved

He can drill all the radiators in the house from now until eternity and still not need GasSafe registration.

confident you could desire to be gasoline secure registered to place in a clean cooker. the hot equipment won't contain the gasoline pipe/fittings related and as a result will require 'artwork' on the gasoline installation with the intention to attempt the integrity of the fittings. The exemption comes whilst the utilising has been put in on a versatile cooker hose to a self sealing bayonet setting up and the utilising is to be disconnected for cleansing in the back of and then reconnected. you could desire to be gasoline secure registered to extra healthful a clean equipment. for occasion why think of of this.......... say your place at present has a gasoline cooker on a bayonet setting up. You yet a clean cooker..... it won't have the versatile hose related, in this situation requiring it to be put in to the cooker earlier that's plugged in to the setting up. This new joint demands sorting out, as does any producer particular exams on the utilising... gasoline working stress exams, flame failure gadget exams etc. everyone attempting to place in the hot cooker is working illegally, and everyone telling you otherwise collectively with different comments at right here do no longer artwork interior the gasoline marketplace and can be skipped over.

Radiators aren't gas they're plumbing so yeah he can basically do whatever he wants to it. It's only fireplaces, boilers etc you can't touch unless you're Gas Safe registered.
