Problems with the i-Touch?

Okay, so here’s the deal. I lost my original i-touch a few months ago so for my birthday my mom bought me a new one. So I plugged it in an used the i-Tunes that I had used for my first i-Touch, but the music won’t play. The numbers go up so the music is “playing” but no sound comes out of the speakers or headphones. Later I realized that I could listen to the songs that I had bought the CDs to, but not the stuff I brought off of i-Tunes Store. Does anyone know how to fix this?
