Which comes first, inner or outer peace?

Are we able to demonstrate peace outwardly without having achieved inner peace? Or will outer demonstrations, such as this link shows, breed inner peace? What kind of influence can such demonstrations have on humanity? Subtly? Overtly? Is it possible for consciousness to touch consciousness one to another, and make an impact of worldwide proportions? Or is it necessary for all individuals to find inner peace before there is a hope of sharing it outwardly?

When i found this link, i began ruminating on the futility or success of such a grand demonstration to strike peace into the hearts of humanity and affect the entire world...thus, my question. Does peace come one by one, or en masse?

Your considerations, please...

Inner peace comes from source and outer peace comes from circumstance. Source never changes. Circumstances change all the time. One last for ever the other lasts as long as circumstances remain the same, a little while. One is experienced as joy and the other as happiness. Joy is of the soul and happiness is of the ego/mind. One is substantial and the other is insubstantial.

The world of outer form does not contain the attributes our hearts long for. When we seek satisfaction from what is insubstantial we will always lose what we gain and be disappointed.

Outer peace last for a time but inner peace is timeless/Eternal.

    Interesting site.

I think they affect each other equally. Inner peace would be reflected in the persons actions and words. And the more outer peace a person experiences, the more inner peace they will feel as well. As for which comes first, for me it was inner peace. I think the influence is great, but only superficially... concerning the demonstrations. A lot of people love the idea of living in peace with everyone. But the problem comes when we try to define what peace is and how it should be attained. Our conflicting ideas keep us from attaining it. Example: An Evangelical would want everything around him to reflect what he considers his inner peace. This may mean living in a Theocracy. But the Theocracy is of his own making... so that reflects in his actions and words. Which, as we all know, steps on other peoples freedoms and their ideas of peace. I guess it's the fact that so few are actually willing to find common ground, to see where we do agree on our ideas of peace and try to work it out from there.

Inner peace is the only thing we can control. Outer peace is dependant on people having inner peace. The nice thing about inner peace is that when it's obtained, outer peace isn't a major concern anymore because you are now in a state where nothing that is outer can effect you.

True inner peace, a free Gift from God, is transformative and causes lasting changes in one's Spirit-led soul which is a deeper level than just fluctuating intellectual agreements in our minds.

Outer peace movements are social and mostly are on a temporary emotional or mind level. There can be some interactions both ways. Personally God-conscious individuals can intellectually or emotionally lead people to possibly seek Spirit of Truth confirmation inwardly. Also, if the social outer group actions are on a higher ethical level than a human with low morals; that may be a short-term benefit to society, or longer term if that individual seeks for inner illumination and spirit transformations.

Only Spirit-transformed individuals can help transform our still needy world. Secular humanism by itself will always fail to enthuse lastingly. The Brotherhood of all mankind cannot achieve world peace and justice without seeking and following the loving and all-wise Sovereign Presence and perfect will of our loving Father God -- no more than our solar system can exist without gravity presence !

Peace and progress in Spirit and in Truth !

Can you judge a book by its cover ? If you can then it is doggone transparent ! What I am saying is that"Outer Peace" is what is expressed on the surface---it MAY or it MAY NOT bear some connection to what is inside. In fact the existence of a connection to what is contained within is not necessarily apparent nor is it known if there is (as in some situations) a necessity for some connection between inner and outer ! We have all encountered people who been dipped into 'Glaze', coated, or plated with some covering to make them appear smoother, prettier, larger, smaller, etc. The entire cosmetics industry is dedicated to improving what is perceived as "Beauty" It is refreshing when a beautiful someone appears and upon examining, probing, dissecting it becomes clear that the beauty permeates their entire being--inner and outer. Hopefully their 'peace' follows the homogeneity of their character.

I have achieved inner peace and was held back a little in that it felt so good I was ashamed that I didn't try to "spread it around" to others but trying to help others achieve peace got me into all sorts of bad vibes accused of all kind of silly stuff, eventually I got tired of trying to help and gave up on others, now I enjoy my peace fully without feeling egoistical. BUT some people hate it to see you peaceful so I have learned to shy away from others, hide my peace. It's madness and I would never have though humans were so petty.

We are all at different points on the same spiritual path. We will each find our way with or without the help of others. But I think many of us like to share what we experience; if it is inner peace, then we may have outward expressions of this. Others experience that inner peace but do not feel inclined to share - which is fine. Others still may have outward expressions of inner peace, but there may still be turmoil within, thus that peace is not quite complete... which is also fine.

We all come to our own truths in our own time. Mass expressions of love and peace are beautiful to watch and inspirational to experience, but not necessary for our spiritual growth. Contrary to popular belief, the God force does not need our help where that is conerned. Not only is it not our job to preach, but teaching by example is so much more effective. :-D

  • It is the inner peace that the outer peace displays.

As Christ said, one is not clean from the outside appearance but it is the condition of his heart that either brings forth evil or good, all are from the over flow of his heart. If evil, the man is evil, if good than good.

In conclusion, the outer peace doesn't matter at all but the inner.

I think they can walk together and feed each other without necessarly needing the accomplishment of one to begin the other.

People that haven't "attained" inner peace can join efforts and "fight" for peace "outside" and for a broader cause and principles. Most people have periods of inner peace and that will shine outwards and echo through the whole system and amplified if joined together with others, even if those represent only temporary states and manifestations of efforts to improve our internal and external universes.

Probably the majority of the individuals joining this march, though highly motivated to make this a better world are not "enlightened" beings, just somewhere in their own path of growth.

I think these types of manifestations are helpful in empowering the cause and engaging even more the people involved. It is hard to express the powerful feeling of unity and of being making a difference this type of mass organisations can have on the participants.

Outside information can help, these demonstrations can incite curiosity, show arguments, stimulate debate, raise awareness and press larger steps in terms of decisions at political higher levels but the awakening has to come from the within of each individual.

Thanks for letting us know about this. So many efforts are being made that could gain so much with our collaboration!
