I like all styles, early gangsta rap and hip hop.
why I like it you ask?
yes, there is no band and extreme technical skill to it like death metal, but I like the storytelling, the lyrical wordplay from the better rappers and the the groove is nice as well.
**and as i side note, i do not like the current state of hiphop in general. Everything is contrived to try to make money. I do like some more underground artists like Atmosphere....who actually put on an excellent live show with drums, bass and keyboards (along with some turntables as well)

MQ: Thoughts on the songs i posted?
BQ: Does any other metal fan here listen to Rap? if so, who do you like?
**Ashlee: Brother Ali and The Lost Children Of Babylon are new to me..but they sound pretty good.
Tech N9ne is a bit different...he def has his own style, but I really like his vocal ability...athough his subject matter may be abit generic

I like rap and hip hop and metal is my main genre of choice although you already know that lol i grew up with a lot of rap so it hold a special place with me but i agree with you i think sometimes people just listen to the more mainstream rap and think it takes no talent at all but some of the more underground rap takes a great deal of lyricism which is what i love about underground rap and i like the beat i also like all styles but am very partial to political rap and hip hop
MQ - good choices especially love the Goodie Mob track only one i am not so hep on is Tech N9ne but that is just my personal preference
BQ - i like a lot but I'll post some of my faves of who i like

Not a fan of rap. To me, it gets really old, really fast (same with most genres, though). I listen to music for the instruments. In metal, even though there are vocals, most aren't understandable, and become more like instruments anyways. I mean, except for on Thelema.6, I have a hell of a time catching half a sentence from a Behemoth song. One time, I looked up the lyrics and listened to the song to see if I could actually make out the words and I could. However, the song lost its "mysterious" appeal for me for awhile until I forgot the lyrics.
In other words, unless a band has an unique twist to them (Carach Angren, Alestorm), I normally don't want to understand what they're saying. Which is why I listen to metal almost exclusively.

I've never much cared for rap, but have no problem with it. Everyone likes what they like, period. For all my whining and biatching about Metallica not being metal, I still don't put down people who like them and won't let the fact they fell away from their roots (IMO) detract from the contributions they HAVE made. Besides, I like some non-metal bands as well. I used to run amok with a bunch of creative types who did custom chain mail and leather work for the BDSM crowd so we frequently ended up at fetish clubs so they could set up tables and display their wares. I kind of got into some techno-industrial stuff around that time. I typically would just sit and watching the rolling freak show (tee-hee! fun!) and listen to the music. It kind of grows on you after a while. I now like Skinny Puppy and several NorCal local bands from that genre.

Yes I do! And I didn't know there was another Tech N9ne fan in R&P - you have GOT to listen to his new album K.O.D. It's fantastic. I love his flow. My favorite songs from it are "Show Me A God", "Check Yo Temperature", "Demons", "Blackened The Sun", "Pinocchiho", "Strange Music Box", and "Shadows On The Road".
Anyway, rap is one of my favorite genres along with metal. I like too many artists to list but the last song I bought was "Ain't With Being Broke" by Geto Boys. You might like it, it was from the early 90s. Good song.

Oh have you heard Ice Cube's "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It" yet? It was one of his most recent singles.

And Ashlee posted a link to Dead Prez, they're one of my new favorite groups to listen to. I've only listened to Let's Get Free, and Revolutionary But Gangsta, but I really like them.
