How long do perms typically last in someone's hair?

I have heard 6 months, but I have seen people that kept perms longer. I had a perm 14 years ago when I was 12 and I didn't like it much because I didn't know how to really take care of it.

My hair is almost shoulder length and it's think. I want to get another perm but with loose curls. I can't do the whole curling iron thing. Should I wait for my hair to be longer?

Update:

oops I mean it's thick lol Sorry bout the typo

Well it doesn't really matter how long the hair is for how long the perm will last. it all depends on the type of curls that you get. If you have loose curls than the perm will look like it lasted longer. if you have tight curls than it looks like you have to get it more often.

I think it all depends on your hair , my hair is long and doesn't hold a perm well . My aunt was a beautician and she said my hair waterlogs , her term for the reason my hair would not hold a perm .
