Choosing Air Force Job (AFSC) FEMALE going to MEPS NEXT WEEK! High asvab score. Help?
Im enlisting in the air force. My asvab score was a 91. Individual scores were 89 Mechanical, 91 Admin, 97 electrical, and 91 general. I have an Associates degree. I'm married with no children (yet.)
I really need information from current/prior service members. If you could go back and choose any AFSC what would you pick? I need more to go on then what airforce.com and about.com military has to offer. Please only Answer if you have experience or credible information with these careers.
Here's what I'm looking for:
I would love to have a job that mostly requires working in the DAY time. I want something that CAN be stationed at many bases. I appreciate that deployment is part of the job and the sacrifice but it would be nice if I didn't get deployed every year. And YES, I know hoping for a medical job without going open gen is useless but hell, let me dream.
Given all that take a look at my list. Do any of these jobs conflict with what I'm looking for? Are any of these jobs more in line with what I'm looking for? Can you think of jobs that would be good for me that I haven't listed? Do you have any information to volunteer about your own AFSC?
(I'm not interested in being a linguist. Or ATC which is my husbands AFSC.
My List:
4t031 Medical Lab tech
1w031 Weather
6c031 Contracting
4R031 Diagnostic imaging
2a732 Non Destructive Inspection
1n031 Intelligence Applications
2E2x1 Computer Networking and switching systems
4c031 Mental Health Services
2n031 Public Affairs
Thank your for you help!

the 2E2X1 career field no longer exists. It's been merged into the 3D career field family. I would suggest 3d0x1, 3d0x2, 3d0x3, and 3d1x1, and any other 3D career fields. Reason being is because every base in the world needs communiction support, be it internet, telephones, satellite, etc. Therefore, your range of bases is wide open.

That would likely be an open contract, needs of the Air Force. The economic downturn has made many reconsider enlistment into any of the branches - all of the branches you would be waiting at least 6 months to leave, have no enlistment bonuses, and only scraping the bottom of the job barrel out there nowadays. Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice and hope a good slot opens up - your recruiter should be able to tell you the specifics with the Air Force currently. LOL @ Larry, I hate to break it to you, but an 83 is not that impressive, I could name at least 5 jobs just in the Army that he wouldn't qualify for. Most of the AF space guys I worked with had at least a 95ish AFQT. No jobs translate to high-paying civilian jobs? Try high-5 and low 6-figures in space operations WITHOUT a college degree working for the very same contractors you work side by side with, but again it has alot to do with networking and making those connections with people you served with who are out and about in the world.

I have been in the Airforce for 13 years now. Being a Medical Lab Tech has been wonderful. I have been stationed in Europe and Asia and also Texas, New Jersey, and Washington. There is definitely potential to be stationed anywhere. And I have always worked 9-5. Good Luck.

Here is the honest truth. You probably will not get lab tech, diagnostic imaging, mental health. The Air Force is in big need of medics, which is 4N031. They will seriously try to persuade you into a job that they really need. They tried to offer me load master and boom operator. Just hold your ground. If you really want a paticular job then fight for it. Just whatever you do, DO NOT go open general or anything like that. This just means that they can stick you with any job that they feel like. I just got lucky.
