Anyone buying this short rest hurting the Yankees BS?

AJ burnet just sucks!! Has nothing to do with short rest , every game he has started in the post season the bats either had to bail him out or he lost.

Short rest has nothing to do with it, these guys can pitch on short rest!!

Update:

All you defending AJ!!!?? This is a normal AJ start , he pitched GREAT until...... last night that until just came at the start and his BS with Molina also. Hell you had 2 non hitters in the line up to start last night!!

Watch how Petite does on short rest!

its pretty much BS. Andy Pettite doesent need to pitch 8 innings in order to win this game folks. Mo is a go for 2, the Yankee bullpen (main guys) are well rested. Joba & Marte should be cabable of gonig 2, A combination of Robertson, Aceves, Bruney should be good for 1 inning, hell Robertons by himself maybe even) that would leave 4 innings in which the Yankees need Andy to hold the Phillies down & get some runs off of Pedro. I could see a real quick hook for Andy if he struggles early on, but I think Andy is more than capable of getting the job done, I expect him to get at least 5.2ip with a lead or a tie.

Not to mention the fact that Pedro DOES need to pitch 7-9 innings to win this. The Phillies bullpen closer & set up man are not trusted men right now. Park sure as hell aint gonna shut the Yankees down for very long. If Pedro only lasts 6 & its a close game, the Phillies are in deep crap!

That's simply not true. He's only had 1 other bad start this post season, the one start he had on the road.

Historically, short rest has been good for him. It's only 4 games and none this year, so it's not much of a statistical sample, but there' no way you can blame the short rest. Here's why he was so bad:

AJ Burnett is and has been all year a TERRIBLE away game pitcher and an EXCELLENT home game pitcher. Is that a problem that you can blame Burnett for? Yes. But not in the World Series. At this point in the season, you have to accept your players strengths and faults and it's up to the manager to know what to expect from them. Cano should be able to bunt, but he can't and if Girardi asks him to try in the World Series, I'll blame Girardi, not Cano when it turns into a double play. Same thing here.

It was absolutely idiotic for Girardi to start Burnett on the road, short rest, regular rest, long rest, it doesn't matter. Starting Burnett on the road was an stupid. He should have sent Gaudin to face Lee whether Lee was going on regular rest or short rest. I have no idea what to expect from Gaudin, but I know what to expect from AJ. Gaudin couldn't do any worse and maybe he could have even won. He's certainly had some surprisingly good performances in the past and his 1 inning in the post season was perfect.

EVERY analyst who follows the Yankees and most of the fans knew that and said so before the game, loudly. The only guy who's been watching the games all year that didn't know that was Girardi. And it set us up for difficult scenarios in games 6 and 7. Short rest didn't affect Burnett, but it will affect Pettitte and CC is still good but he's running out of steam and dropping from unhittable to very good.

If Gaudin started in game 5 and we lose (which would be expected, especially against Lee), then you'd have Burnett at home where he's been unhittable and then Andy on regular rest backing up CC in case of trouble in game 7 if needed.

That said, the Yankees will win game 6. The Phillies simply don't have any pitchers except Cliff Lee. Pedro and Pettitte will give up a lot of runs, but the Yankees have 3 decent relievers (Marte, Joba, & Robertson) compared to 1 decent reliever from Philly (Park). Then there's the closer, the only untouchable guy left in the series now that Lee is done, the immortal Mariano Rivera.

AJ Burnett just sucks? Clearly, he does not or the Yankees wouldn't have paid him $82 million. He looked pretty good in his first start, when he was going on full rest. Then, on 3 days rest, he gets lit up for 6 earned in 2+ innings. CC wasn't nearly as good on short rest, either. And I don't look for Pettitte to be great either.

And the Yanks bullpen can be hit. Look at game 1, the Phillies touched up the Yankes bullpen...And Rivera can blown saves, he's blown saves in the postseason before and it can happen again. Pedro can go for 5-6 solid innings, then the Phillies can put in JA Happ for an inning or two, then use Park/Eyre/Myers/Madson to finish the last inning or two.

He pitched very well in game 2.

But he is inconsistent and he has pitched much better at home than on the road this year.

I'm not buying it. Burnett would implode anyway. He has plenty of horrible games this season for no reason. No evidence to blame this particular game on short rest.

I agree with you. AJ is only 25! and it's only a couple of games. he just struggled yesterday. i dont have a whole lot of confidence in his control, anyway.

Short rest is just one of many factors.

Honestly, I don't think of it as an excuse. If you don't think your starters can go on short rest, then use a 4th starter.
