Help! My rats bury their food?
I have two pet rats and they live in a three-level wire cage.
On the second floor, I keep their food and water, so I can keep it away from the dust and smell on the first floor.
Well, they both have a tendency to take their food (I feed them rat food pellets, about the size of a die) and move it to the first floor and bury it in their bedding.
As you can imagine, it's very frustrating for me, especially since they're basically burying their food in their own waste. I pick it out and put it back in the bowl, but I come home from school at the end of the day, and it's all back down there!
Any advice would help, thanks!

You could try litter training, but my rats do this aswell, it's just in their instincts to store away for later. Try getting a pan and putting some of their waste in it then leave a seperate corner with shredded up newspaper to see if they will hide it in their, hammocks are also a great idea as I find mine like to stuff the hammocks full of food

its ok! rats/mice/hamsters do that. just put enough food in their bowl for one day instead of filling it up to the top, that way you can control how much they eat and know how much they are hiding away. they won't go hungry or anything if they have a secret food place. just let them do what rats do! :]

You can't really change anything about what they do with it. Rodent's have a tendency to hide their food.
You could try putting in a litter-box of sorts

It no big deal man. Thats perfectly natural for a rat to do. My little rattie does the same thing. Truthfully there is nothing you can do about it, they'll probably eat it later.
