How can I control the clover weeds that keep appearing in my garden?

The plant has clusters of small 3-lobed leaves (approx 1cm or 1/3 inch across) and yellow flowers. It's spread everywhere, in flower beds, the lawn and pot plants.

in your garden, the best way is to apply mulch, block the sun from getting to the seeds in the soil.

either that or you'll have to dedicate a lot of time to hoeing your garden and resort to a weed killer.

be very careful with the weed killers though, a little bit drifting on plants will kill them easier than clover.

protect wanted plants with something such as a sheet of cardboard.

    same with your flower beds.

for your lawn the best way is weed-b-gone.

clover flourishes very quickly so you'll need to hit it hard and stay on top of it.

The plant you describe is not actually clover - it sounds like birdsfoot trefoil to me, which like clover is loved by bees and butterflies.

I would recommend mulching beds and planters well - and leaving the lawn, just mowing it well next year will keep it down on the lawn.

Weed killer is not a brilliant idea = as you will probably end up killing off everything else, and we do need to look after the bees if we want to eat in ten years time.

Clover does especially well in moist conditions and in less than optimally fertile soil. The one nutrient it really goes for is phosphorous. So if you cut back on the water and up the level of the nutrients, other than phosphorous, that your lawn needs to thrive, your lawn will do better and weeds like clover will do worse. The best defense against any weed, clover included, is a healthy lawn. To know just what kinds of nutrients to add to your lawn, get your soil tested.

Post-emergent herbicides do a great job on clover. A weed-and-feed that lists clover as among its targets will help tackle any serious clover encroachments
