Has anyone been reading the Blackest Night series? Do you think it's living up to all the hype?
You really need to read all the issues and the tie-in series. It's actually quite good.

Overall, I would have to say that it is pretty good. It isn't "fantastic" only because they keep drawing out the "can you get over the bittersweet reunions of zombies attacking their loved ones?!?" angle. You get a kick out of the living dead from the various "Crisis" titles coming back, and the intricacies of what happens when the rings try to reanimate Deadman, Solomon Grundy, and Firestorm. You also get to see how the other Corps react to the black rings and how they team up together.
I don't know how much of it you have read, so I won't reveal anything important, but I will state this: It seems like they had SO many different sides to this story that it got beyond their control to tell in its fullest. You get little snippets here and there and then on the last pages of several issues they sprinkle in a forgotten plot line here or there, as if they just remembered it. Here recently, they are finally getting to the point and I think what will happen next will make the series worth reading.
Besides that, Blackest Night is supposed to be a gateway to an even bigger universal event in DC. To sum it up: Buy "Blackest Night" only, it is a good read, the filler stories are exactly that: filler. They have nothing of great substance to add to the main story arc. Avoid BN Green Lantern, BN Green Lantern Corps, BN Superman, BN Batman, BN Teen Titans, etc. If you like the Blackest Night limited series by itself after issue #3, then go for it and get the side stories too.

Most "Twilight Fans" didn't read the series before all the hype. The only reason they call themselves fans is because of Taylor Lautner, Rob Pattinson, and the sappy romance in between. I read the books about a year before they were popular and thought they were okay, but nothing great. I'm sick of this, too.

I bought the first one. Eh, it was boring to me. All they do is complain about their dead friends. So much whining in one comic book does not make a good story. Then towards the end the midget overlords start to fight...I couldn't have cared less at that point.
