NeoCons: why did the AARP and AMA come out in favor of heath care reform?

Since, in your world, anyone against your positions is a Commie, Fascist, Socialist or liberal fiend why would the conservative AARP and even more conservative AMA come out in favor of the house health care bill?

You forgot to add that consumer reports also endorses it.

You should also add that the very first version of the bill was not supported by the AMA and AARP and these neocons said that was proof that the reform bill was bad.

Now of course the AMA and AARP and Consumer Reports are bad.

The AMA accounts for less then 20% of practicing physicians in the US, thus that would make sense those would be liberals or whatever else you listed above. The majority are against it and do not belong to the AMA. AARP can make huge amounts of money from this deal and to say they are conservative is a joke.

Neither the AARP nor the AMA are by any stretch of the imagination conservative.

The AARP is run by a bunch old union people, usually ex-teachers who obviously do not care about their "membership", but do care about sucking up to the government.

Did you know that Medicare Advantage, a program to help seniors get private insurance and cut costs is going to be cut severely?

But guess what, Medigap insurance won't be effected. Want to guess who the largest Medigap provider is? Right, AARP of course.

The AMA represents less than 25% of physicians and in a survey of 10,000 physicians, they are againt the Pelosci & Baccus bills by a 70% majority.

AARP came out in favor of the last plans too and lost a large percentage of their membership (my father included) because of that. The AMA represents 18% or LESS of the Doctors in the United States and serious surveys show most Doctors are OPPOSED to Obama care.

Simple... they've been bought. Both are lobby groups... nothing more and nothing less. Many seniors are (or have already) dropped their membership because of the AARP's support of this bill. A great many doctors do not belong to the AMA because they are so political and I have heard that a number that ARE members are dropping their membership too.

Covering their bases -- just like any corporation does.

It's my understanding that the AARP members are upset w/ the cuts to Medicare and the AMA only contains a very small % of the practicing doctors in the U.S..

Looks great as an endorsement but given the birds-eye, looks like a stunt to protect their interests. I'm still waiting for the honest employee to come out and claim they were strong-armed..."join us or receive no funding".

Political favor. Funny thing...the AMA supports the plan but the doctors I work for do not. The AARP supports the plan but retire seniors I talk to do not.

Your question should really be who do the AMA and the AARP represent.

But the fact that you use a word like Neocon to describe anyone that holds and opinion slightly different to your own tells me you are not interested in getting an answer, you are rather here to bang on your drum of agenda and show your are a faithful leftist marching in lockstep with the mantra of your Koolaid servers in Washington.

Wheeling and dealing and guarantees of even more financial gain. Where does AARP get most of it's income? They receive it from the elderly by selling supplementary insurances. Oh and how about the AMA, can't get a license without those "representatives" of our physicians.... Only 18% of which belong to that outfit.

They're both liberal front groups, nothing conservative about either one.

They want to get into bed with Obama, in spite of the cost to patients and seniors.

AMA has about 250,000 doctors as members.

AARP is losing memberships because of their support of this crap.

the AMA only represents about 20% of all doctors in the USA. AARP is already under fire from its members.
