Time to Thank Kimberly Munley, American Hero?

I don't hear military officials talking about her yet, but Munley took down the Fort Hood shooter and saved lives, while risking her own. Read her story here.

Lt. General Cone has gone out of his way to commend her actions. Sgt. Munley will hopefully be decorated, as she acted with damned little regard for her own safety, and indeed was shot for her troubles. More to her character, while lying in hospital, she has reportedly been making phone calls to determine the condition of others. Its a shame that the shooter will very likely get the lion's share of the news coverage, while a real hero will be forgotten far too soon. Not sure about Army decorations, and likely a MOH is out of the question (it should not be). I believe a Silver Star is the next highest recognition of valor. Please correct me if I've mispoken.

Source(s): 20 years USAF. Never did a damned thing that even approached heroic, but I served in the company of heroes. I salute Sgt. Munley and wish her a speedy recovery.

She had the right training and the right opportunity. What she had that others may have not had; the heart, bravery, and b***s to actually do it!

A great big HOOAH to her! And for all those that think women can't get the job done.....just goes to show you that they can!

    You Rock!
