When an elderly person stops eating how much longer until they pass away?

My husbands grandfather has renal failure. He has stopped eating. The nurse said he ate a little oatmeal yesterday and thats it. They also have him on constant morphine for the pain.

The reason why I am asking is that we have a trip to visit my grandparents planned on Wednesday. I do not want to go on the trip if he is going to pass away during our trip.

Thanks

It can vary. How far along is the renal failure, hard to say exactly. A person can last for weeks without food, but will only have 2-4 days to live if they no longer take liquids. My dad hung on for several weeks with renal failure, and a greatly diminished appetite. But once he was in a coma, he was gone in about 48 hours.

according to risk that proprietor stressful that no you would be able to be there to preserve the cat. if so, according to risk the cat could ought to circulate to a preserve, and according to risk be euthanized there, for loss of everyone to undertake it. according to risk that cat slept along with her each night, and the owner needed hers, and the cat's eternal sleep to be jointly. according to risk it became right into a loving act, for a cherished puppy, no longer a egocentric act.
