I like Pickthall ....and also Muhammad Asad for his commentaries. You can read those online here [Asad, Ali, Pickthall]:

    http://www.islamicity.com/QuranSearch/

....and here you have the Arabic, Arabic transliteration into the English and English side by side.

You could try your library under the inter-library loan scheme for a copy you can read at home if you don't want to splash out as yet. However, you can probably buy a copy cheaply from an Islamic book store conneced to a mosque......if you phone your local mosque or islamic centre they should be able to help or advise you.

Have any questions, please feel free to email me.

    Hope that helps..

    Thanks...

May the peace of God be with you...

Salam Dear (: Sure you can read, But: Know that: The Holy Qur'an in Arabic is the exact words of God as He sent them to prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him - ... The authorized translation you have is only a translation for the meaning, not exactly God's words ... Though the Arabic structure is a litle bit complex one, no one can find equivalent (exact) words for the Holy Qura'an, while they can with normal texts ... If you want to read God's miraclulous words as He said them, you should learn Arabic ... Another thing is that: God told us to read parts of the Holy Qura'an daily, I was astonished to hear from you that you didn't read it yet ... You should finish reading it each month (it's not a must- but it's better dear) start withe first chapter untill the last ... Masha'Allah, some people finish reading it every 3 days ... Specify a part you read every day after your prayers not to become busy with anything, I do that AlhamdAllah ... I'm sure that you know that The Holy Qura'an is a protection and a real light for the Muslim who learn it by heart, and for the Muslim who read it day and night, if you don't know about this please e-mail me and I'll provid you ensha'Allah with them ... May God Bless You Dear, and Make His Book a Light for You Now and in the Hereafter ... ..

The most well-accepted English translation of the Quran is by Mohammad Marmaduke Pickthall.

    http://www.al-bukhari.org/

Mashallah there are many good genuine websites which offer english translation of the holy quran, bukhari is one of them, if you cant open this site, do google search, best option is to visit a Islamic Research Centre in yr city/or mosque and request them where you can find a copy of english translation, preferably buy the arabic+english translation together.

Right, because the universal word of God is only possibly to understand if you speak Arabic. Like the 6,000 years of Abrahamic religions before that didn't count.

I think the Quran should not be translated. I think no religious text should be translated. It just accelerates the spread of ignorance.
