If I refuse to buy govt mandated obamacare health insurance, will I go to jail?

http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/healthcare/...

The Joint Committee on Taxation has revealed that individuals could be forced to pay an additional $25,000 fine on top of the failure-to-purchase penalty or spend up to one year in jail. Democrats say they are offering choice in health care reform, but is “buy government-approved insurance or go to jail” really a fair choice? I doubt the American people think so.

You can bet that the jails will be ful then.....Actuallly There are a few Senators looking into the Constitutionality of that. Fact#1 Where in the Constitution does it say that Goverment must provide health care?Fact#2 Where does it say that if I dont get it.I will be fined and go to jail? Fact 1 could twist the wors of Life,Liberty and the persuit of happiness.(not the intentions) But I know there is nothing in there about fact 2. This has nothing to do with healthcare. Its about more goverment in people's lives

    No.

First, there's no such thing as "Obamacare." The House passed a bill; the Senate has another bill; neither were written by Obama.

Second, no one is going to be coerced into buying into the Public Option (assuming there IS one in the final version). People who are happy with their health care can keep it.

Most people will be required to have health insurance; those who can't afford it will get subsidized insurance. Those who refuse will pay a token fine. The additional fine is for refusal to pay the smaller fine -- for those who are required to have insurance but simply refuse to.

Not having any way of getting health care is NOT MORE choice, but less. The Dems are trying to give people choices: Keep what you have; switch to something else.

How do you think having no options is more choice than having options?

Whats the big deal??? I thought the Republican mantra was personal responsibility.... Like government mandated fiscal responsibility, and family values (think Bush) this is just another thinly veiled attempt at government forcing something on us under the guise of personal responsibility . I thought Republicans would be happy .

Well I doubt you'll go to jail but I would look forward to a whopping bill from the IRS. Not even sure the law is legal. We'll have to see. I bet there's some law suits on this one. Good luck to you

No it is not a choice that I want. I am looking forward to the 2010 and 2012 elections when we can send these liberal politicians and Obama packing. It is good to see more and more people waking up to what Obama and the liberals are trying to do to this country.

Yes, you will be in debt up to your eye sockets and in deep doo doo if you do not buy insurance.

BTW...I thought this was supposed to help us get away from insurance companies.

No, you can always choose to buy insurance from the private companies that will still be trying to sell it to you if you so choose...but if you don't buy either, yes, you may go to jail if you can afford to buy one of them and are just too lazy or stubborn.

(Nice of you to conveniently forget that part of it...)
