Cheap & decent Phuket accommodation?
Can anyone suggest a decent place to stay in Phuket (near patong beach)? I've been looking at heaps of places, but don't really get much from half the sites. Looking for something pretty cheap.
Thanks for the tip Mike. I'm only there for a couple of days to meet some friends. If anyone can suggest some places to travel to in southern thailand that would be great. I want to see some temples, animals, a ping pong show and drink heaps. I'll be travelling north to see most of the historical places.

Phuket is one of the most expensive places in Thailand. You will have to pay more than anywhere else in Thailand because it is one of the biggest tourist places.
I stayed there and looked around. If you need a cheap place, go a little out of Phuket.
All the Cheap places are all about the same price.
The decision is up to you.

Stayed in Phuket 3 times and it is over priced and over rated but the best site i have found is agoda.com for price and always gives good reviews.
Most Hotels are only max of 10 min walk to beach so being right on the sea front is not an advantage.
Prefer Ao Nang,Krabi, cheaper and better scenery and easy access to other Islands like Phi Phi.
The Hotels are stayed were no more than 5 min walk to beach and I would recommend any of these to family and friends.
Coconut Village, Leelavadee aand Anchalee Inn.

Don't miss to see Phuket Fantasea, and Phuket Simon Cabaret shows. Water activities and day trips in Phuket is very nice, let's try safari tour, and fishing tour.

I live in Thailand. The VIP super sleeper air-con buses from Chiang Mai to Bangkok cost 20 USD one way. They are very comfortable and cover the trip in 9 hours. The non-air-con bus doing the same trip costs around 8 USD, takes around 20 hours and is very uncomfortable. Take your pick or choose one of the 3 classes of buses that lie in between these two.
