Could I last 30 days in Thailand on $1000 au?

I am going to Thailand for 2 weeks. Getting cheap and crappy accommodation.

Just found out today (the start of my leave) that my contract at work isn't being renewed.

Therefore I can stay longer in Thailand. Is it possible to stay for that long with just $1000?

Just want to drink, see some history and lie on the beach.

Any backpackers done it cheap for a month there?

You might squeak through in Pattaya. You can find cheaper accommodation than Phuket and Bangkok. Cheap bus ride from Bangkok so you save on transportation. Pattaya has a nice beach front, you can lay on the beach if you want but don't swim there! Lots of malls, bars, cheap restaurants, cheap transportation (10 baht) and even movie theaters. Pattaya might be the cheapest and easiest place to get to for your price range.

You can get a crappy fan only room for about 180 baht to 250 per night (never examine the mattress in a cheap place!) Or, for a little more money around 500 baht you can get a place with air. You can get booze from a supermarket or even a Seven Eleven type store if you want. But my advice is to have a little more cash with you even if you have to use a credit card to borrow some extra.

For some pointers on Pattaya and places to stay at check this forum out:

    Good luck.

Sure you could last 30 days in Thailand with a budget like that, but you would have to be really disciplined and strick with your money. I think that budget would be ok for 2 weeks, but 1 month is pushing it if you want to go drinking everyday and do all the fun things. If you buy beer from 7- Eleven, eat from street vendors / markets and avoid pricey nightclubs, major tourist attractions, go go bars everynight, etc you'll be just fine.

    Cheapest accommodations on http://www.sawadee.com/hotels/ (range from $10AUD - $3000AUD)

If you haven't booked airfares, go with Airasia.com (cheapest airfares in the world)

To answer you're question, $1000 for 2 weeks is like $70 a day which is good, you will have a good time with meals drinks massage and 1 or 2 tours.

But $1000 for 1 month.. i can't guarantee or reassure you that you will be enjoying yourself or not.

you could just do it avoid bangkok apart from the khoa san road area where you can find cheapie food drink and accomodation then head for ko chang you can get a half decent place for 250 baht nice beaches and some cheap bars but you will needc to be strict with your self try to take a little more if possible

You could if you live like a local. Eat only at street vendors, stay at guest house, take bus to places. Rather than drinking at bars do a lot of sight seeing like temples, beaches. When I go on vacation, I like to buy beers from 7-11 and enjoy it in my room.

If you have some money left towards the end of the trip, then you could really enjoy yourself.
