Specialist said I need to eat 2600 calories/day. Can anyone help?
Wow. Okay. I went to a sports medicine specialist at my gym and he did a body composition analysis. He took my measurements, tested some things and found that I would need to eat 2600 calories per day for my body to be in peak form.
I'm very active - I run (just ran a marathon), I lift, I practice yoga - basically, I'm in the gym 6 days/ week.
I know that I don't come close to eating that many calories. Any suggestions?
Here's what a typical day's worth of meals looks like:
Before the gym: Tall glass of water and 1 banana.
Breakfast: Medium-sized bowl of (old fashioned) oatmeal with raisins, walnuts, rice milk, and brown sugar. Small glass of orange juice.
Lunch: Huge tossed salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, broccoli, pine nuts, green or red peppers, marinated artichoke hearts and homemade dressing (of EVOO and vinegar).
Supper: Veggie stir-fry over brown rice or quinoa. Or a sweet potato with steamed veggies. Or some whole wheat pasta.....
I do have snacks during the day - one around 10:00 a.m. and one around 3:30 p.m. I'll have a piece of fruit, baby carrots and hummus, chips and salsa, or a handful of nuts. Nothing too excessive.
I'm thinking I top out at 1700 and on any given day, I feel like I'm super stuffed. I could not imagine eating another 900 calories. Any suggestions or tips you can give for this confused vegan? Thanks much!

I think adding in a little more protein during the day might help (especially in assisting muscle repair & growth)...Examples:
breakfast:1-2 T. of peanut butter
lunch salad: 1 C. tofu cubes
dinner: some TVP or lentils

Uh ok Ricky Hatton? a professional boxer? Who trains like-- 3 hours an afternoon and runs 5 miles, 5 days a week? He eats 2600 energy! in case you do not have self assurance me Google it you will locate his food and work out recurring online. i'm notably helpful you do not practice 3 hours an afternoon so i could particularly get a 2d opinion. I advise 2600 energy!? i'm a guy who works out generally and my maintenance calorie point is 2400 so i could particularly, particularly think of roughly what this dude is telling you!

When you eat healthy, your body will regulate itself. It will let you know if you're not getting enough food or nutrition by making you hungry. The 2600 calories figure is just a typical value. Counting calories is a pain. I did it twice - two days. Both times I was getting about 2500 calories. Now that's typical for what the calculator says I should be getting. But everyone is different. I eat as healthy as I can and I don't count calories. What's the point?
If you always did what other people tell you to do, you'd be a slave to the government, the advertisers, and anyone else. You know what works for you. And when you don't, you research it.

are you too skinny? if not, i wouldn't worry about it.
however, you could add in more nuts, they are very calorie dense. avocados are also. you could also drink more calories, like juices and soy milk.
