I always hear about the greek life in colleges and stuff and how some people hate it and how some love it but i never know what they are talking about. So what is it?

It's like "gangs" except under the guise of preppy or jock group mentality.

fraternity and sorority living
mostly they are just party houses where a group of people from one gender live in the same house (all girls in a sorority, all boys in a fraternity)
and usually they have names of greek letters, like Kappa, Gamma, Sigma Nu, the whole deal

Fraternities and Sororities.
You know, the stereotypical college party deal. Not all frats and sororities are like that, but many are. It's a stereotype.
