Why is my cat eating his litter?
We have two 12ish year old Persians.
One has taken to nibbling at his litter tray.
He's not eating poop or anything as he does it in a tray which is clean or has had just a few spots of pee in it.
Any ideas why please?
He will be booked into the vets on Monday.
Thanks.
Erm.... he is fed when he asks with a choice of three foods, if he doesn't fancy the dry , he gets a sachet of normal food.
Also he's only nibbling at the litter.

Be careful with that.
If it's the clumping kind then it has sodium bentonite in it and that swells 15 times when it gets wet so it can cause intestine blockage. Also, the clay particles can coat his digestive tract, and it can dehydrate your kitty and possibly give him urinary tract problems. If the particles get in the intestines they can attract fecal material, which makes more bacteria grow and that can block the proper assimilation of digested food. Which can give him a number of infections, this doesn't happen very ofen but if hes eating a lot of the litter defiantly tell your vet.

The male animal from every breed could eat/nibble on the baby's for territorial reasons.
He may think the litter is a threat to him or his female.
also is the female protecting them when he does this?
if not then the kitten is either no longer an intest to the female or its old enough to take care of its self.
