PLEASE help me-i cannot connect to the internet?
I just bought a Dell mini 10v and it was on the internet (it downloaded anti-virus updates) but I bought a linksys router and now no matter if I plug the ethernet cable directly into the computer it still says address not valid or internet explorer cannot display the web page.
1. I have a siemens modem all green lights on.
2. I have a Linksys router some blue lights on...
3. the ethernet cable is going from the modem to the router and the router has a usb cable connecting it to the dell.
4. I have DSL through at&t.
I don't understand what could be going wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?
THANK YOU!
Oh two more things:
1.I did read the instructions eventhough I am not the best at computer info. I thought I followed it all clearly.
2.There is a flashing icon (the computer screen with the waves coming off is flashing blue to black and back contantly).

Usually reading the router installation instructions BEFORE you connect the router helps.

You make the statement "the router has a usb cable connecting it to the dell." Well, that is usually a nighmare to get setup correctly. Use either another ethernet cable between the Dell Mini and the Linksys router (that will setup nearly instantly) once the router is properly working and setup THEN you can disconnect the cable and setup the wireless!
It is very very difficult to use wireless to setup the router, once the router is setup then connecting is usually a simple as opening the "wireless connections" icon (lower right corner on windows machines) and view available networks then connect to the one you setup in the router!
Using USB from your Mini to the router usually does not work as you need drivers to turn the USB port into a network port and that isn't builtin software! USE ETHERNET! Should be that simple.

You need to connect directly to your modem and switch it into bridge mode. This way it will just pass information into your phone line. Then connect the computer to the router and the router to the modem. In a browser(IE, Firefox, Oprah, Safari, Chrome, etc.) and type into the address bar: 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. Login with the password and username (default is admin:admin, (blank):admin or admin:(blank)). Set the connection to PPPoE and then enter your AT&T username (including what is after the @ symbol) and password. Now apply the settings at the bottom of the screen and wait a bit. Your connection should now be established by the router and internet access available to anyone connected to the router. Note: You will not be able to access the modem configuration screen unless you connect to it directly.

I have ATT dsl also.
First go to start>settings>control panel>internet connections>delete files then delete cookies and delete history
Then go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>disc cleanup then disc defragmenter
After you have cleaned and defraggged your machine, then
Turn off the machine by start>turn off computer
Use the on/off switch in the back of your modem to turn that off too. Then there is a tiny reset button where there is a white paper with a tiny circle on it. Push a pen in that circle and hold it down for a few seconds. Wait about 30 seconds to a minute, then turn on the modem by the on/off switch and the computer.
See if it doesn't work then. You just have to sign in all fresh with stuff.
I have a Siemens modem also. If that doesn't work, try the self support tool and then call 1-877-722-3755.
